CBC New Indigenous Voices 📡

Applications are now open for CBC New Indigenous Voices, presented by the National Screen Institute.

CBC New Indigenous Voices is a full-time, 14-week training program for up to 10 Indigenous creators to learn the essential elements of working in the film, TV and digital media industries. Emerging Indigenous creators looking to explore career opportunities and gain hands-on experience are encouraged to apply.

This year, applicant eligibility has been expanded to include Indigenous creators at any age over 18. There is no fee to apply, and participants receive minimum wage throughout the entire program.

CBC New Indigenous Voices training will be delivered in-person in Winnipeg, providing participants with a fully immersive experience, the opportunity to work on the production of a short film and an internship placement. Travel and accommodation support is provided for participants 30 kilometres or more outside of Winnipeg.

Application deadline is March 17, 2023 at 12 p.m. CT.

Equinox Program Deadline: March 15th, 2023 🗓️

artsnb‘s Equinox program supports Indigenous artists, curators and groups to engage in artistic creation and professional development. Eligible projects can range from

  • research and development for the creation of new works
  • creation and presentation of artistic work
  • activities that support and strengthen the Indigenous arts community.

The Equinox program provides flexible, short-term support to individual Indigenous artists or collectives applying on behalf of small or large groups, arts groups, organizations, community groups, independent arts administrators, and artistic and cultural mediators. Grant funds may be used for organizational development and professional development that will have a positive impact on building the arts ecosystem in Indigenous communities.

Third Watch: Call for Submissions 🌘

Third Watch is a festival of digital video works, and a pilot project as a part of THIRD SHIFT programming. It will take place in Saint John, NB on August 19, 2023. Third Watch aims to celebrate audio-visual content that is exploratory, challenging, and critical in nature. We encourage work that may not be commercially viable, or suitable for an installation as a part of THIRD SHIFT. Submissions must be under 15 minutes in length. Content may be narrative, documentary, experimental, or anything in between. If you can project it, we can select it!

Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund: Upcoming Deadlines 🗓️

Screenwriting Award: $500
Deadline: February 28, 2023

The Jane LeBlanc Screenwriting Award is done in partnership with the Writer’s Federation of New Brunswick. The
award seeks to spotlight talented New Brunswick Screenwriters and is open to emerging and experienced screenwriters of
short film scripts up to 15 minutes in length. Un-produced or produced scripts will be accepted, but must have been
written within the last two years. The Second Prize is a 1-year Writer‟s Federation of New Brunswick membership.

Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund

 

Errol Williams Filmmaker Award: $1,100
Deadline: March 1, 2023

Errol Williams was a pioneer and award-winning international filmmaker who was introduced to filmmaking at the NB
Film Co-op in the late 1980s. He produced dramas and documentaries. After his untimely death in 2007, a special award
was set up in his honour.

This is an award for small, independent theatre organizations in Fredericton to cover office and administrative costs,
theatre Artist-in-Residence, educational materials, and costs associated with the creation and presentation of new theatre

Are you a Canadian artist, arts professional or arts organization with some connection to Korean arts and culture? Do you want to strengthen those ties to make future co-creations or collaborations possible? Do you have a Korean artist or arts organization you would like to work with?

Canada-Korea connection fund

The Canada Council for the Arts invites you to apply for the Canada-Korea Connection Fund, which will provide up to $10,000 CA for projects focused on creative research and relationship building between Canadian and Korean artists, arts professionals, arts groups or institutions.

This fund is made possible through a partnership between Canada Council for the Arts, Arts Council Korea, and Global Affairs Canada, inspired by 60 years of diplomatic relations and leveraging Arts Council Korea’s International Partnership in Support of Arts Creation (ISAC) program. Initiatives stemming from this partnership seek to strengthen arts and culture connections between Canada and Korea while building towards a more equitable and sustainable future for the arts.

Special consideration will be given to projects that reflect a commitment to develop capacity around, and/or explore questions of environmental sustainability and/or equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The Jeff Barnaby Grant 📽️

The Jeff Barnaby Grant was created to honour the late Jeff Barnaby’s creative legacy and to recognize his tremendous and visionary contributions towards Indigenous Narrative Sovereignty, Genre Film, and Indigenous Cinema.

The grant is funded through Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity in memory of the contributions that Barnaby made through his participation in the company’s Advancing Voices program.

The Jeff Barnaby Grant is available for 5 Indigenous Film + Television creatives across Canada with productions at any stage in the Horror + Thriller + Futurism genre.

The selection committee for this grant will comprise members from Jeff Barnaby’s Indigenous creative community.

Each selected recipient will receive $25,000 to support their projects.

Eligibility:

  • First Nations, Inuit, or Metis film + television creatives located in Canada
  • A film or series project in the Horror, Thriller, or Futurism genre

Fredericton Summer Artist in Residence Program 2023 ☀️

February 2023 – The fifth annual City of Fredericton Summer Artist-in-Residence program will take place this year in two locations – the Fredericton Botanic Garden at Odell Park, and Killarney Lake Park.  The City is inviting artists to submit proposals for a residency at either location during July or August. Residency periods are for two weeks with a new option this summer for a one-month residency, each with a stipend of $500 per week.  Accommodations are not provided.

The program provides a unique opportunity for artists to move their studio outdoors into the natural surroundings of Killarney Lake’s wooded recreational park on the northside, or in the community-run Botanic Garden adjacent to Odell Park on the southside. Both locations are open and free to the public.

Artists are required to engage with park and garden users daily on site, and with the broader community through online activities. Artists will be active on social media with brief daily updates on their residency as well as occasional, in-depth activities such as a demo, artist talk, or workshop. Selected artists are free to move throughout the park or garden as part of their creative process and will be provided with portable lawn signs which will indicate that they are the ‘Artist in Residence’.

This residency is open to all artists working in any medium, however preference will be given to work that is conducive to community engagement. The artist is expected to be in residence Monday to Friday, for 6-8 hours daily.

Project Soundcheck is a prevention initiative, aimed at giving festivals, venues & communities the skills and training to prevent and respond to sexual violence in live music spaces. By reducing bystander apathy and training industry professionals to intervene when seeing harmful behaviour, we can foster safer spaces in our music industry.

The Lieutenant-Governor’s Awards for High Achievement in the Arts are designed to recognize the outstanding contribution of New Brunswick artists.

One award of $20,000 may be conferred every 2 years, in each of the following four categories:

Visual Arts Award: including architecture, fine craft, media arts and photography
Performing Arts Award: including dance, music and theatre
Literary Arts Awards*: including literary translation, literary performance, spoken word and storytelling
Indigenous Artist Award: including visual arts: architecture, fine craft, media arts and photography; performing arts: dance, music and theatre; and literary arts: literary translation, literary performance, spoken word and storytelling

* Please note that awards in Literary Arts alternate between French and English from year to year. The next nomination period (2024), nominations in English language literary arts will be considered.

Contact East Showcase Applications Open 🌟

Contact East is an annual performing arts booking conference hosted by the Atlantic Presenters Association. The event brings performing arts presenters, managers, and agents together to see artist performances showcasing a diverse range of artistic genres, including but not limited to music, cabaret, dance, disability arts, circus arts, comedy, youth-oriented programming, and cultural performances.

This year, Contact East will take place in Woody Point, Newfoundland from Thursday, September 20 to Sunday, September 24 offering artist showcases and pitch sessions, professional development sessions, and numerous opportunities for presenters, artists, agents and managers to network and discuss booking opportunities.

Artists should be prepared to present a performance, or excerpt of a full length piece of work, approximately 15 minutes in length. APA understands that some performances need more time to be fully experienced and will do their best to ensure that all work is properly represented.

Artists should be prepared to showcase the performance that was stated in the application. Any changes must be pre-approved as the selection committee selects final applications based on what was submitted.
