Moncton, September 7, 2016 – The Symposium d’art/nature: Moncton 2016 will be held from September 22 to October 2, mainly in the Millenium Ecological Park of the Université de Moncton with manifestations elsewhere in the City of Moncton.

For ten days, the park and the city will become an in situ creation and intervention laboratory where the public will be invited to follow the creative process. Nine (9) artists and collectives from New Brunswick, Canada and France will produce non-permanent public art projects that will be conceived and developed in diverse areas of the park.

Participating artists

Camille Bernard-Gravel (Québec)

Gilles Bruni (France)

Daniel H. Dugas and Valerie LeBlanc (Moncton)

Sonja Hébert (Vancouver)

Denis Lanteigne (Caraquet)

Collectif M+M+M (Mathieu Boucher Côté, Marika Drolet-Ferguson et Marie-Êve Cormier) (Moncton-Tracadie)

Douglas Scholes (Montréal)

Scenocosme (France)

José Luis Torres (Montmagny)

The event is developed around the following theme: For ages, humans have thought that they must conquer nature, that nature is there to be used, cultivated and exploited to fulfill a growing need for resources. This approach has brought us way beyond the biophysical limits of the planet as evidenced by the current global warming crisis. The existential stake of how to remedy this in a durable and viable manner requires that we enhance our creative reflexivity. Art and ecology are therefore part of the great challenge of the 21st century.
