SNB presents the Saint John String Quartet in the first Virtuoso Concert of the season

November 6, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Symphony New Brunswick (SNB) presents the Saint John String Quartet in its first concert of the 2016-17 Virtuoso Series. The Quartet will perform Timeless Treasures on November 3 at McCain Hall (St. Thomas University) in Fredericton, on November 5 in Moncton at Resurgo Place, and in Saint John on November 6 at the Saint John Arts Centre. The renowned Quartet, recently returned from a South American tour, features violinists David Adams and Danielle Sametz, violist Christopher Buckley, and cellist Sonja Adams.

These concerts will indeed be timeless and will transport audience members through hauntingly beautiful — and memorable music. The musical treasures featured have stood the test of time and have become standard beloved repertoire. Pieces will include Mozart’s String Quartet in A Major, K 464, written in 1785 and enduringly beautiful to this day. It was one of a series dedicated to Haydn and became a model for Beethoven’s Quartet in the same key. The members of the Saint John String Quartet will also give audiences their rendition of Beethoven’s String Quartet in A Major op 18 no.5 (1801). General Manager Jennifer Grant says, “These pieces are timeless because they touch human hearts and minds consistently over time, bringing joy, understanding, warmth, and a sense of community in a sometimes harsh world.”

Also on the program is Vivian Fung’s Pizzicato, written in 2004. Vivian Fung is also in the process of becoming a timeless treasure. In all of her compositions, she celebrates her own multi-cultural background and that of her audiences across Canada. This Juno award winner has had her works performed by many major orchestras in Canada. The obvious audience appreciation at these concerts guarantee her a place as a true Canadian treasure.

The Saint John String Quartet performs more than 125 concerts a year and has travelled throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Japan and South America, always to wide acclaim.
