Call for Submissions: Okanagan Print Triennial 2024

The 2024 Okanagan Print Triennial will take place at the Kelowna Art Gallery. The Triennial was initiated in 2009 by Kelowna-based printmaker Briar Craig, and supported by the Kelowna Art Gallery, the Vernon Public Art Gallery, and the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus. This exhibition is an open, juried show dedicated to showcasing the creative forays made with printmaking across Canada and beyond. The winner of the 2024 Triennial will be given a solo exhibition at the Kelowna Art Gallery in 2027.

OPT 2024

The curators look forward to selecting and installing works by a diverse range of printmakers and share their fascinating contemporary art practices with the local public.

Call for Applications for Canada‑Korea Co‑Creation Projects 🇨🇦 🇰🇷

The Canada Council for the Arts has partnered with Arts Council Korea and Global Affairs Canada to support projects that will deepen and diversify creative, collaborative relationships between Canadian and Korean artists.

This is the second of two funds inspired by 60 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and the Republic of Korea. By working together, the partners hope to facilitate creative connections, promote cultural exchange, and develop new international opportunities while investing in a more equitable and sustainable shared future for the arts.

Deadline: January 18, 2024. Completed application forms and required documents must be submitted by email on or before the deadline date by 11:59 pm (local time). Incomplete or late applications will not be assessed. Application assistance may be available. See below for details.

Application limits: You can only submit 1 application to this fund. Applications to this fund do not count towards the maximum number you can submit to the Canada Council each year.

City of Saint John Art Bank Call for Artists 🏦

The Saint John Community Arts Board is now accepting submissions for the 2023 City of Saint John Art Bank program from individual emerging or professional artists, groups and collaborations, who are residents of the City of Saint John.

The City of Saint John has a large collection of visual art and heritage pieces that have been purchased or donated to the City. This work can be seen within City Hall, as well as various locations throughout the City, including the Saint John Arts Centre, Market Square and the Saint John Free Public Library.

The Art Bank program provides an opportunity for the City to expand on this collection. Proposals for the purchase of paintings, sculptures, limited edition prints and photographs, drawings, fine craft, mixed media, and other related mediums will be considered, with priority to acquire artworks by artists who are not currently in the City’s Art Bank collection.

The City’s art collection includes work by celebrated artists from Saint John including Miller Brittain, Fred Ross, Herzl Kashetsky, and many more.

The Saint John Community Arts Board supports the development and growth of arts and culture within the City of Saint John. Reporting to Common Council, the board is responsible for formulating and recommending policy in regards to investment in the arts. They provide advisory support to the arts and culture sector and encourage community awareness and appreciation of artistic and cultural activities.

City of Saint John: Call for Indigenous Artists for Commissioned Public Artwork 📣

The City of Saint John is seeking to commission public artwork from a professional artist or artist team of Wolastoqiyik, Mi’kmaq, or Passamaquoddy heritage to be placed within City Hall. This artwork builds on the city’s commitment to create awareness of indigenous cultures, peoples, and heritage.

Painting in bright colours of 7 figures in a canoe, a fish leaping over their heads, and a mirror image of the fish swimming beneath.

The budget for the creation, design, and installation of the piece is $20,000. The artwork can be pre-existing or created for the commission. A jury comprised of City Staff, members of the Saint John Community Arts Board, professional artists, and members of the Indigenous community will review the submissions and determine artist.

The selected artwork will be integrated into the first floors of City Hall. As the welcome space for visitors, residents, and guests to City Hall, this location allows for high visibility, impact, community connection, and aligns with the building’s natural flow and themes. The piece will be installed by April 1st, 2024.

Flourish Festival 2024: Call for Submissions 𝄞

FLOURISH Festival 2024 runs from June 20-23 2024. We’re celebrating our tenth anniversary!

We’re now accepting submissions from bands, visual artists, installation artists, workshop providers and everything in between for our 2024 festival. We accept submissions for all art forms and music genres from across the world.

Please fill out the form below with your information. Our jury will be reviewing submissions in January, and artists will be notified by February 2024 at the latest. Unfortunately we cannot respond to each submission; only those selected will be notified.

Applications close December 11th 2023, late submissions will not be considered.

Fredericton Airport Call for Musicians ✈️

The Holiday Music Series runs throughout the month of December at the Fredericton International Airport. With the help of talented local musicians, YFC brings a lively atmosphere for passengers, employees, and our amazing community.

We are looking for solo or duo musicians to elevate our airport’s atmosphere with secular music during the month of December. We are open to all genres. Performances will run concurrently with arriving flights and will be approximately two hours in length. The audience will be all ages and music must be family friendly and appropriate for a diverse audience.

Artists will receive an honorarium of $100 per performance and are welcome to accept donations from the public. A public address (PA) system will be provided at the event—HK Audio POLAR 10 Column Speaker System.

2024 Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators: Call for Submissions 📣

The Art Gallery of Guelph is accepting submissions until Friday, January 26, 2024, at 5 pm ET for the Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators.

Founded in 2012, the Middlebrook Prize for Young Canadian Curators is awarded annually to an emerging Canadian curator under 30 with the aim to foster social innovation and curatorial excellence in Canada. Hosted and administered by the Art Gallery of Guelph, the winner is selected by a jury of arts leaders and receives a $5,000 honorarium as well as mentorship in the development of an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Guelph. The 2024 Middlebrook Prize jury is composed of Alyssa Fearon (Director/Curator at Dunlop Art Gallery), Tarah Hogue (Independent Curator and Writer), and Renée van der Avoird (Associate Curator of Canadian Art, Art Gallery of Ontario).

Submissions are assessed based on artistic quality as well as conceptual strength of the proposed exhibition. The successful applicant’s exhibition will be presented as part of the Art Gallery of Guelph’s Fall 2024 season. By supporting and mobilizing Canadian creative talent, the Middlebrook Prize aims to inspire positive social change through creativity in an era of ongoing and unprecedented economic, environmental, social, and cultural upheaval. Proposals should emphasize contemporary Canadian art with attention to audience, community, and social relevance.

Petapan 2024: Call for Workshop Hosts and Pop-Up Market Participants 📣

Mawi’Art Wabanaki Artist Collective seeks applications from Indigenous artists for Petapan’s art workshops Friday, May 31, 2024.

Petapan: First Light Indigenous Arts Symposium invites Indigenous visual artists within Atlantic Canada to apply to offer hands-on workshops in their practice during the Petapan symposium. The workshops can involve painting, basketry, beadwork, carving, drawing, etc. Artists should be prepared to offer a two-hour workshop, during which participants can complete a small piece of work.

Submission deadline: January 31, 2024.

Please submit your artist bio and CV, along with a brief statement indicating your interest and which artistic practice you would offer in a workshop, as well as up to five photographs of your work to: communications@mawiart.org

Petapan: First Light Indigenous Arts Symposium invites Indigenous vendors who are interested in selling their hand-made Indigenous artwork at the Petapan Pop-Up Market to apply for a booth, lone table, to chair, free of charge!

andNow Residency ⚡️

Factory Media Centre is seeking submissions from multimedia and experimental film artists for our annual &NOW Production Residency & Scholarship (PR&S) program set to begin this upcoming Winter 2024!

Recognizing that our communities are still impacted by the pandemic, this year’s &NOW Residency Program structure will take on a new model. Artists will select their residency structure: in-person at the FMC gallery and studios, remote online on a platform of the artist(s)’ choice, or a hybrid mixture.

This year’s &NOW Residency term will accept three artist(s) from February to mid-March.

FMC welcome submissions from artists or artist teams working in a variety of digital or media art forms including:
Film – Animation – Expanded cinema – 360 cinema – Immersive video – Augmented reality – Virtual reality – Live coding – Electronic literature – Interactive mediums – Video games – and other forms and definitions of media artwork.

ThisGen Fellowship 2024 📃

Why Not Theatre in partnership with the National Arts Centre is excited to announce the 2024 iteration of ThisGen Fellowship. Eight Fellows will be selected as part of the 2024 cohort, and applicants may apply to participate in either the Directing Stream or the Design Stream. The program will begin in May 2024 and run until August 2024 (exact dates of activity TBD).

Running over the course of four months, ThisGen Fellowship 2024 commences with a 1-month online paid training program featuring a faculty of internationally renowned arts leaders, followed by an in-person residency in Ottawa hosted by the National Arts Centre. Fellows will then develop a research proposal as the fellowship will culminate in a 2-week lab designed to allow each Fellow to explore and apply all that they have learned to their research question.

ThisGen is a paid training program. Each fellow will receive a fee of $8,000 CAD for their participation in the program.

RBC Award for Glass 🔥

Submissions for the 2024 RBC Award for Glass are now open! Click below for the full application in English or French and submit your application online by January 14, 2024 at 11:59pm EST.

The RBC Award for Glass is a national $10,000 award for emerging glass artists working in blown, fused, or stained glass. Thanks to the ongoing partnership between RBC and the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery, this award is presented annually to a practising emerging glass artist who works professionally and is in the early stages of their career. The Award is intended to allow the artist to undertake a period of independent research or other activities with the goal of advancing their artistic and professional practice.

Artist Sought to Create Public art for Performing Arts Centre ⭐️

With site work set to begin soon on Fredericton’s new Performing Arts Centre, a nationwide search has also got underway to identify an artist to create a piece of public art for the lobby of the new facility.

The City of Fredericton, on behalf of the Fredericton Playhouse Inc., has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) seeking professional artists working in the public art realm to create an original, site-specific public artwork for the new Performing Arts Centre.

Submissions must be received by 11:59 pm ADT on Monday, December 4, 2023. To find out more about the competition and submission process, interested artists can visit www.fredericton.ca/PublicArt.

National Call for Artists: Public Artwork for Airdrie Multi-Use Facility and Library 📚

The City of Airdrie and STEPS invite professional artists or artist teams based in Canada to submit expressions of interest and qualifications to create landmark public artworks to be placed within and adjacent to the forthcoming Airdrie Multi-Use Facility & Library.

The public artworks will be selected through an open, two-stage national competition, with a total budget of approximately $390,000 CAD. The project budget includes all costs directly associated with the artwork including; fees for design, fabrication, shipping, installation, engineering and professional services, insurance, permits, travel and other incidental and production expenses. Up to four (4) artists or artist teams will be shortlisted and paid $4000 CAD each to create detailed proposals. Community engagement will be a requirement for the selected artist/artist team.

Canadian War Museum Artist Residency Program 🏛️

A Three-Month Remote Residency for Emerging Artists.
Deadline: September 29, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

The Canadian War Museum — part of the Canadian Museum of History — is inviting emerging artists in Canada to apply for its new remote Artist Residency Program (ARP). The successful applicant(s) will collaborate with the War Museum to create a new work of art for the upcoming special exhibition, Outside the Lines (OTL).

Opening in May 2024, OTL will explore the experiences and perspectives of women war artists and how their voices evolved over time. This first iteration of the Residency seeks to amplify the voices of women artists who have typically been under-represented in war art. Working with the exhibition team, the artist(s) will reflect upon exhibition themes, as well as the Museum’s world-renowned war art and military collections, to conceive and execute a finished work.

Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prizes 🏅

The Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prizes are awarded to two persons – one in the arts and the other in the social sciences and humanities, who have distinguished themselves by their outstanding achievements. The prizes are intended to encourage ongoing contributions to Canada’s cultural and intellectual heritage.

These prizes are administered by the Canada Council in collaboration with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The winners are chosen by a peer assessment committee, which is appointed jointly by the Canada Council and the SSHRC.
