Curly Strings is a four-piece band: Eeva Talsi – fiddle, lead vocals, Taavet Niller – upright bass, vocals, Jaan Jaago – guitar, vocals, Villu Talsi – mandolin, vocals – that draws its inspiration from American bluegrass and their own personal heritage in the current Estonian cultural space. Intense and playful ensemble work, hauntingly beautiful melodies and sincere presentation of their music forms the main basis of the Curly Strings soundscape.
The band’s rise in the Estonian music scene in 2013 was a phenomenon unlike any other: a
folk music act that became mainstream by collecting music awards and being the top seller in music stores for more than a year.
Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, invited them to perform in February 2017, which sent attending Festivals into a frenzy. They were booked immediately at the prestigious Vancouver Island Folk Festival and Shelley Chase of Garrison Hill Entertainment, convinced them to stop in the Maritimes before their long cross Atlantic flight home to Estonia.
Estonia is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is bordered to the north by the Gulf of Finland, to the west by the Baltic Sea, to the south by Latvia and to the east by Lake Peipus and Russia. They closely relate to the Finish culture.
Curly Strings appears for A SINGLE New Brunswick show at Ivan & Vivian Hick’s Down Home Fiddle Productions. Only 50 seats for this International musical event, in an intimate setting.
