A Plastic Ocean
June 8, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Join Sunbury Shores and the Huntsman Marine Science Centre in a #WorldOceansDay presentation of the film, A Plastic Ocean on June 8th at 7:30pm at Sunbury Shores Arts & Nature Centre.
The film, A Plastic Ocean is a feature length documentary that highlights the ecological impacts caused by decades of dependence on single-use, disposable items, particularly plastic. The persistent nature of plastic waste sets it apart from other forms of pollution. This, combined with our attitudes towards what was once thought of as a cheap, easy and convenient material has triggered an ecological disaster.
Filmed in 20 locations around the world over a four year period, researchers, ocean stewards and enthusiasts bring to light the alarming reality of this situation. Truth reveals that beneath the surface of the ocean lies an unfathomable amount of plastic waste that imposes undue suffering and loss of marine life, as well as the destruction of marine habitat.
A Plastic Ocean presents a detailed and haunting visual with never-before-seen footage confirming the magnitude and pervasiveness of plastic pollution in the world’s oceans and uncovers the consequences to human health and well-being. The film declares that the time for change has come. As a catalyst for this change, the film introduces possible solutions as science, technology and international policy strive to mitigate the problem before the point of no return has been passed.
