Prose Writing Workshop
December 6, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeDuring the COVID-19 lockdown in spring 2020, author and creative writing professor Kathy Mac taught a seven week course “Wording Around with Prose” to help make up for the cancellation of the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick’s annual spring festival due to COVID-19. Those students reported that “Wording Around [with Prose] is one of the best creative writing classes I have ever taken,” and “The class was useful, containing a mix of theory and practical advice. I think it is a good first delve into the art of writing.”
Over the summer, Mac compiled her notes into a manuscript called Wording Around with Prose: Getting a First Draft Out of Your Head and Onto the Page, as a teaching tool for students of ENGL 3153: Literary Publishing. Covering everything from the practical – like how to structure a story – to the philosophical – like why we write – Wording Around with Prose includes loads of ideas, resources, and prompts to help any writer through that difficult first draft. The ENGL 3153 students took the manuscript through rigorous editing processes, research into digital publishing platforms, and marketing & promotion, which is now available on several digital platforms.
Wording Around with Prose is available at Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Chapters/Indigo, Kobo, Angus & Robertson, Montadori, Vivlio. For direct links to the book on these platforms, go to https://books2read.com/u/bw7Y2G
In lieu of a book launch, Mac and the 3153 will be holding a free prose writing workshop on Zoom at 2:00pm, on Sunday December 6, 2020.
