Opening Reception: inbetweeness
March 2, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
inbetweeness is comprised of seven films by Navarana Igloliorte, shown in concert with one another using four projectors. The short films are a range of collaborations with either individuals or groups of people in landscapes and interiors. As a group, the films weave together teachings, traditional stories and movement.
Some films tell stories while others leave impressions, usually involving seemingly contradictory states of humour or lightness and purposeful reflection in our relationship with the natural world. At the same they explore our interrelations with one another – stories that illuminate our connectedness.
Navarana Igloliorte is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker who grew up in Nunavut and Labrador. Igloliorte uses various media in combination such as stencils, short gauge film, video, dance and watercolour painting. Diverse storytelling, language, music and dance, continue to influence unconventional structures in her films and art. Currently residing in Vancouver, BC, Igloliorte has exhibited and screened her work and community collaborative films nationally. She received a Film and Video Artists-Research/Creation Grant to complete this new work at the Owens.
The artist will be present. All are welcome to attend.
