Workshop: Making Instruments to Take Back the Night

September 26, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us at Third Space for a fun and creative evening of instrument-making! We’ll be making simple and effective instruments for marchers to bring to Take Back The Night Saint John 2017.

Take Back the Night is a globally recognized annual march intended to draw attention to the issue of sexualized violence towards women, woman identifying and trans individuals.

Take Back the Night is a group of community partners; comprised of women and women identifying individuals who seek to reclaim the streets from the fear many of us feel walking home at night due to harassment, potential abuse, unwanted attention, catcalling or any other action which may jeopardize our safety.

Instruments will be constructed using common and recycled household items! Please bring along any of the following materials if you have them. Plenty of materials will be available for everyone to use:

seeds, dry beans, pebbles, rice, macaroni, bells, nails (various sizes), metal bottle caps, buttons, pop cans, pie tins, paper bowls, plastic lids (from coffee or margarine containers), wooden embroidery hoops, toilet paper and paper towel rolls, blocks of wood (any size), plastic detergent container, balloons, twine or cord, pipecleaners, wire, yarn or ribbon, glue (hot and cold), tape, etc.

Accessbility notes:

Third Space is located on the Third Floor. An elevator is available. Our main entrance (Canterbury Street) is up 6 stairs. A ramp into the building can be accessed from our side entrance (on Duke Street). We ask that you call (506) 645-8335 a head of arriving to ensure this door is unlocked.

Washrooms: Gender neutral and wheelchair accessible washrooms are available for use.
