WordSpring 2017: Finding your Voice
May 26, 2017 - May 28, 2017
WordSpring is here! Well, it will be – May 26 – 28 at the Hilton Saint John.
This year, our theme is Finding Your Voice.
Friday afternoon starts with a Meet & Greet at York Bistro & Pub in the Hilton. We offered this at WordsFall in Shediac and it was a wonderful warm-up to the weekend. If you’re new to WFNB or if you haven’t attended one of our events, come Friday and meet the writers and presenters you’ll be rubbing shoulders with in the workshops.
Roger Moore will host a Friday afternoon workshop on how to select a work to read in public. This workshop, and Saturday’s sessions about reading your work and using a microphone, will prepare you for the open mic readings on Sunday morning.
Friday evening, WFNB members will read from their recently published books. Take advantage of this opportunity to promote your work and to meet local authors! Friday night reading slots are limited, and it’s first-come, first-served, so make sure to register soon.
Saturday morning starts with a workshop by Kate Merlin on how to get published. Learn to craft a solid book proposal – and more – whether you want to work self-publish or to work with a traditional publisher. On Saturday afternoon, Roger Moore will help poets and prose writers discover how to make their work sparkle in Meet Your Metaphor. Writers of the suspense, crime and horror genres will get the inside scoop from award-winning suspense novelist Joan Hall Hovey. We’ll also offer the Blue Pencil Cafés with published author who will critique your work one-on-one.
Visit our WordSpring page for payment, registration forms and program info.
Come Saturday night to our annual Literary Soirée. You’ll meet and hear the winners of our 2017 Writing Competition. Special guests are Nancy Bauer and M. Travis Lane. Keynote speaker is award-winning author, activist and war artist, Sharon McKay.
This year, we’re offering a complimentary continental breakfast on Sunday morning, followed by our open mic session.
We’ve reserved a block of 20 rooms at the Hilton at the reduced rate of $129 + HST. Call 1-800-774-1500 and say you are with WFNB. Discover Saint John for more details about things to do and places to stay in SJ.
Rumour has it the weekend will involve belly dancing, and possibly other forms of dance. I haven’t been able to confirm this, but bring your dance shoes, just in case.
I look forward to seeing you there (and showing you around my hometown),
Cathy Fynn
Executive Director
