āVanitasā :(Latin:vanity) is a macabre and often playful genre of allegorical still life-painting
popularized in the 17th Century Netherlands.Grinning skulls are often portrayed as reminders of the transient, fleeting pleasure of life.
Participants will be guided through traditional painting techniques and work from a carefully curated Vanitas still-lifeāadorned with fresh spring flowers and fruitāripe with symbolism of the ephemeral.
Along with creating the work itself, students will be treated to a brief history lesson through music, slides and anecdotes that will delve deeper into the subject matter.
All levels of experience are welcome.
