Open House in St. Andrews with Genealogists, Games and More

July 21, 2018

An exciting experiential experience on July 21 at the Charlotte County Courthouse Common from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at no cost, with a $10 Ghostwalk that night. There will even be an authentic historic encampment and other important historical figures in costume and character.

Activities include:

  • A tour of the County Gaol, built in 1832, giving a glimpse of what it was like to be a prisoner there.
  • An additional tour of the historic Court House, an architectural gem, built eight years after the Gaol.
  • A chance to meet Charlotte County authors and costumed figures from St. Andrew’s past.
  • The chance to sign up to be a member of the Archives and learn how you can investigate your roots even further.
  • An authentic historic and living Camp Site with Company I 20th Maine Volunteers, complete with a medical officer’s tent, with demonstrations of military techniques and musket firing, just with blanks though!
  • Historic Home Movies of St Andrews in the old Court House.
  • Advance reservations for the early September replay of the “Hockey in St Andrews 1900 to 1980” movie.
  • Costumed characters enacting the 19th century personae of Henry and Juliette Phipps Ross, philanthropists who owned the Rossmount Inn and provided endowments for both the Ross Memorial Museum and the Ross Memorial Library.
  • Local food and craft vendors.
  • Live music with Ruth Dunfield on the Court Verandah from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. as well as Masha Shenkel with James Hirtle and other musicians throughout the day.
  • Games, a self-directed scavenger hunt, genealogy demonstrations, refreshments, and more!
