Intro to Cinematography

Workshop Description:
(Film Co-op Members are required to take this workshop before they direct/produce their own projects through the Film Co-op)

While the Director is the headliner who runs the show, the Director of Photography (DoP) is the second most important person on any film. The DoP is the artist who creates the images that the director needs to tell the story. Everything the DoP does is in service to the story and the director’s vision. The DoP also runs the shooting crew of camera dept, electrics, and grips. This session will cover the role of the cinematographer, the various duties and equipment used and the relationship with the Art Director and Director on set

Instructor’s Biography:
Tony joined the NB Film Co-op in 1983. At the Co-op he volunteered on scores of short films in a variety of roles ultimately specializing in cinematography. He has gained experience as a camera assistant and electric on commercial shoots including Pit Pony, New Waterford Girl, In Her Defence and CBC New Brunswick short dramas The Dance and 106 Fire Hydrants. He attended the Rockport Film Workshops (Ric Waite Cinematography class). He has produced numerous films and has written and directed 6 of his own. He has won cinematography awards at the Atlantic Film Festival and the Silver Wave Film Festival and has been teaching film production classes at UNB since 1999.
