The exhibition is open to the public this Friday, September 21. We will celebrate together on Thursday, October 11 at 11 a.m. when daylight will accentuate the beautiful restoration of these historic works of art!

The UNB Art Centre invites members of the Fredericton community to a special reception on Thursday, October 11 at 11:00 a.m. in Memorial Hall at the University of New Brunswick to celebrate the completion of the stained glass window restoration project. Special guests, classical guitarist Steven Peacock and cellist Emily Kennedy, will provide a musical prelude in the auditorium beginning at 10:30.
In 2011, Marie E. Maltais, Director of the UNB Art Centre began to have concerns about the condition of the stained glass windows and started the process to find a qualified conservator and to raise money for the restoration. While stained glass artists are quite rare, even rarer are those who have the knowledge and expertise to work with old glass on an architectural scale. Fortunately, Ned Bowes who lives just outside Fredericton was able to step in and take the lead. Awarded the title of “Maitre de Vitraux” from the American Stained Glass Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1980, Ned has over 38 years of experience working on large restoration projects throughout New Brunswick, Barbados and North America. For the past 2 years Ned has dedicated his vast knowledge and exceptional skill to bringing UNB’s signature stained glass windows back to their original glory.
Taking over 2000 hours and 2 years to complete, there is indeed something to celebrate! An exhibition documenting the painstaking process from start to finish will run from September 21 through October 26.

The UNB Art Centre is located at Memorial Hall, 9 Bailey Drive, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton. The galleries are open 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays and for special events. Admission is free to members of the public. Everyone welcome!
