What little girl hasn’t held a tea party with her dolls, friends or imaginary friends?
A social gathering of women, of all ages, celebrating a spring afternoon in friendship over light eats and tea. It is a tradition that we remember from our grandmothers or mothers and one we would like to bring alive again in our region for our generation and generations to come.
Bring your grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, cousins, friends, co-workers and/or neighbors! Come in twos and fours! Of course, flowers, hats and fancy dresses would be an added delight to see!
We have surprises for you; a Trudy Gallagher of Art Jewel Designs trunk show, a Matcha tea demonstration with Louise Fyfe, owner of the Lotus Bleu, the Duo Anti-blues with Margot Albert and Denise Mazerolle will visit and Sylvie Martin will be reading tea leaves!
For our first annual Art et Thé event we are holding a fudge contest! Ladies wishing to submit a plate, decorated for the occasion of our afternoon tea with 8 pieces of fudge for judging are asked to present their dish between 2h00-2h30 at the PBP Gallery. The flavor and texture of the fudge along with its presentation and recipe history will be considered by the judges. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded!
I honour my grandmother
I honour my grandmother, a United Church Minister’s wife, Pearl Victoria Lentz– my name sake. As a young child, I attended United Church services with my grandparents and have fond memories of the church socials and afternoon teas. I waited anxiously each year for the Strawberry Social and Tea! Over 50 years ago, friends and family of my mother, Shelby, held a Tea Cup and Saucer wedding shower for her. The tea cups I’ll be sharing with you were handed down to me.
L’heure du thé…
Lors de visites chez ma grand-mère quand j’étais enfant, j’admirais dans son buffet-vaisselier des petites tasses de porcelaine, toutes aussi uniques les unes que les autres. De vrais petits bijoux! « Chacune de ces tasses délicates et colorées, dorées ou argentées, me remémore de merveilleux souvenirs des personnes qui me les ont offertes ou d’après-midi de bridge passés avec famille et amies », me racontait-elle. Pour ma part, le protocole qui accompagne le service du thé m’amène dans un monde où le temps devient secondaire, le moment présent étant celui qui importe.

Souvenir des après-midis de thé
Ma mère sortait ses petites tasses spéciales quand elle avait, comme elle le disait « de la visite importante. » La dernière fois qu’elle a eu de la visite importante, elle avait, je crois, quatre-vingt-quinze ans. Maman a accueilli Viola Légère un après-midi pour le thé. Elles se sont rencontrées alors qu’elles étaient déjà âgées, mais elles sont devenues très vite de grandes amies. Tous les ans, elles échangeaient des cartes de Noël. À chaque fois que Viola passait par Edmundston pour se rendre chez elle à Moncton, elle venait prendre le thé avec Donata.
