The Early Music Studio of Saint John will present the 2017 Saint John Early Music Festival at the Saint John Arts Centre from Friday, May 26 to Sunday, May 28. This year’s Festival is titled “Boundless Invention: Telemann & Vivaldi” and focuses on works by Georg Philipp Telemann and Antonio Vivaldi, two of the most prolific, innovative and influential composers of the Baroque period.
The 2017 Festival opens at noon on Friday with a Listen & Lunch presentation by Artistic Director Tim Blackmore followed by four concerts featuring guest artists Joel Verkaik (baroque oboe), Jonathan Addleman (harpsichord) and Danielle Sametz (violin) performing with the Festival’sEnsemble 18c., Collegium Musicum and Academy of Saint John ensembles and Tim Blackmore. Wine and food offerings are included in the ticket price for the Friday and Saturday concerts; refreshments are also provided for the opening Listen & Lunch presentation and the closing concert on Sunday afternoon.

Ensemble 18c is joined by guest artists Joel Verkaik (oboe) and Jonathan Addleman (harpsichord)
for chamber concertos, trios and solos with oboe.

Flute and recorder sonatas attributed to Vivaldi, some authentic, other dubious or spurious.

Collegium Musicum (Period Instruments)
Chamber concertos, trios & sonatas for two violins, recorder & harpsichord.

Academy of Saint John (Modern Instruments)
The Academy is joined by soloists Danielle Sametz (violin) and Tim Blackmore in a program
of Vivaldi concertos for strings, Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto RV 275 and Telemann’s Suite in A Minor
for Recorder & Strings.
