Atlantic Vernacular is an online exhibition of contemporary craft paired with poetry of Atlantic Canada. Voices of the region include those of our first nations, and multiple mother tongues represented by participating artists and poets. This region is a den of material experimentation, integration of work with one’s environment, and honest confrontation with the challenges of making work in a conservative region of the country. After artworks were selected for exhibition, regional poets were invited to interpret the works through their own medium of verse.
Whether you are looking to pitch to a producer, distributor, or financier, the first step is always finding out who is the best fit. That means researching who is in the business of aligning themselves with films that are similar to your own. The road to getting a film off the ground is never straight and narrow, especially if you’re starting at the bottom. What if you could pitch your film in precisely the right way to precisely the right people?
Join Will Beckett as he takes you through his process, tips, and tricks for creating a memorable proposal and pitch trailer.
Instructor’s Biography:
Born in Nova Scotia, filmmaker/photographer Will Beckett is now based in Saint, New Brunswick. A graduate of the University of King’s College School of Journalism (BJh, 1996), Will brings a documentarian’s approach to his educational film projects. His NFB co-produced web documentary series, “Prehistoric PEI” (and its accompanying video blog), showcased Prince Edward Island’s little-known fossil history. His subsequent project, “In the Shallows: A Tale of Two Shipwrecks” garnered regional media attention for its innovative use of 360 Virtual Reality cameras to present a piece of Maritime history trapped beneath the waves just off PEI’s northern shores. Will’s upcoming projects will incorporate a mix of 2D and VR video as he delves into New Brunswick’s prehistoric mysteries.
Will has also worked as a crew member and actor in a variety of film and television productions. These include CTV’s “The Amazing Race Canada” (Seasons Two and Six), CBC’s “The Songs of Gene MacLellan” TV special, and “The Stats of Life” (Season One).
His company Productions l’Entrepôt received its first Gemini nomination in 2019 for the digital media component for The Newbies.
André has worked with many broadcasters, including Radio-Canada, UNIS TV, AMI tele, Z-télé, and the TFO Media Group.
As an actor in television, audiences have seen him in the series Les Newbies, Le Siege and Le Clan.
Andre and his team received a Talent to Watch grant through the New Brunswick Filmmakers’ Co-operative and Telefilm to create a French web series in 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID 19, the project was put on hold and will now shoot in June 2022.
