Solo Chicken Productions the coop Presents A Record of Us in The Black Box Theatre

Fredericton, NB – Solo Chicken Productions is excited to announce that they are taking the coop’s inaugural work, A Record of Us, on the road for their first tour of New Brunswick. In early June the company will perform their inaugural work in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton and Sackville, forging new partnerships with Saint John Theatre Company, the Aberdeen Centre, and Live Bait Theatre. A Record of Us was created using the text of celebrated New Brunswick author David Adams Richards as the catalyst, resulting in a physical theatre performance that evokes the raw beauty, enduring humour, and hardscrabble realities of life in this province.

A Record of Us premiered as a main stage offering at the 2016 NotaBle Acts Theatre Festival and was created through residency opportunities with Charlotte Street Arts Centre, and the Fredericton Playhouse. The creation of A Record of Us began in the spring of 2015 when Lesandra Dodson and Lisa Anne Ross first launched the coop, which is a performance collective for professional artists to research, develop and perform original works of physical theatre while supporting the artistic growth of emerging NB artists through training and performance opportunities.  This piece celebrates the work of a new generation of NB artists who are now making a resounding impact in their field – since the premiere in 2016 the coop company members have been busy training and creating theatre across Canada and are thrilled to be returning to Fredericton to share the work across the province.

A Record of Us is directed by Lesandra Dodson and Lisa Anne Ross, and features the collaborative work of Jean-Michel Cliche, Kira Chisholm, Alex Donovan, Ian Goff, Alexa Higgins, and Lexi McCrae. The tour will include Technical Direction by Trent Logan, and Stage Management by Dee Chiasson.

Vivarium

A cyclic and playful meditation, Vivarium is a poetic allegiance to the unsung life persisting everywhere. You are invited to visit a site where four artists give their attention to detail, bending to weeds, bricks, and bugs. Two dancers oscillate limbs and torsos like coleopteras or heliotropic plants — they jostle, camouflage, and compost. A musician plays field recordings, weaving a soundscape. A scenographer creates a pop-up garden from found objects. In the lee of linear time, Vivarium both colonizes and pollinates, engenders and contaminates pre-existing ecologies.

***

About the Artist

Lucy M. May is a contemporary dance artist, teacher, and writer based in Montréal. She is attracted to the porousness of collaboration and the vastness of dancing. Currently, her performances ask how geo- and bio-social environments thread their way through human movement. She deepened this research in her native province of New Brunswick during the artistic residency Esemplastic Landing, hosted by Atlantic Ballet. Lucy imagines her moving body as a meeting place, where theories and conversations find confluence with what is local, sensual, or tactile.

From 2009 to 2016, Lucy was a member of Compagnie Marie Chouinard. She is an affiliate of Margie Gillis’s Legacy Project. Lucy studied at l’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal and Codarts in The Netherlands.
