The Backstays
The newest song on forthcoming album Tributaries (out May 1), “Aquarius” is an example of pandemic-time music making in a band context. “’Aquarius’ started out with just three piano parts and a beat; I knew I could build something with that, but I didn’t really plan for it to be so dystopic, “said  The Backstays ‘ Pete Johnston (he / him).” This person, or character, is starting to lose their humanity and succumb to pressures caused by something they’re resisting, or fighting against, all while they thought they were just biding their time. ”  +++ info>

Matt Boudreau on tour
Acadian artist Matt Boudreau will hit the road in New Brunswick with his musicians from April 15 to May 1, 2021 to present his show in six towns and villages. The tour will begin Thursday, April 15 at 8 p.m. at Pub 981 in Néguac. The tour will continue to Miramichi, Campbellton, Caraquet, Saint-Jean and Dieppe. +++ info>

The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) is thrilled to announce the performers for the 2021 East Coast Music Awards Show, slated for Thursday, May 6 at Center 200 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The event will feature performance by New Brunswick artists Les Hay Babies and Wolf Castle . +++ info>

FIRST JANE LEBLANC MUSIC AWARD RECIPIENT ANNOUNCED
Emerging New Brunswick-based music artist Stephanie David has been selected to receive the first Jane LeBlanc Music Award. The award is given out through the Jane LeBlanc Legacy Fund created in memory of Miramichi, born artist Jane LeBlanc. The fund is in place to assist emerging New Brunswick resident filmmakers, singers, and musicians. +++ info>

A national award for Émilie Landry
The music video for the song “Bouillir d’la misère” by Émilie Landry won the first position in the “Best Lockdown Video” category at the Canadian Independent Music Video Awards this Saturday evening, March 13, 2021. The music video, shot in Moncton in the fall of 2020, is a production by videographer Louis-Philippe Chiasson. The song is a humorous nod to those who tend to put their heads in the wheel. We see Emilie trying, as best she can, to cook a simple bread, an obvious nod to the confinement of the last year. +++ info>

Canadian Folk Music Award Nomination for Mike Bravener 
Mike Bravener has been nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award 2021 in the “Best Traditional Singer” category. Early last summer Mike released “Depends Upon The Pay” and it is for this album’s submission that he is nominated. The awards take place on line April 10th and 11th  +++ info>
