H2O – An Ocean of Science

March 22, 2021

On March 22, to celebrate World Water Day, the UNB Art Centre will launch a free interactive app designed to bring the world to you. Developed in collaboration with Spandrel Interactive, a New Brunswick-based game and digital media developer, H20 – An Ocean of Science will allow anyone with a smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android) to explore climate-impacted water systems around the globe.

Designed to celebrate the UNB Art Centre’s 10th year of participation in World Water Day events, the app is part of an international project to bring awareness to the importance of water resources and their sustainable management.

The app will allow users to select a Standard or Augmented Reality version to discover the ocean biosphere and experience how interconnected our planet is– from the smallest bacteria to the largest blue whale. H2O – An Ocean of Science brings together research, data, and analysis from scientists, oceanographers, zoologists, climatologists, geologists, and others to understand the challenges facing the world’s marine environments. For each location, a link will be provided to encourage further investigation.  As well, the app is an accessible platform that will allow users from all over the world to share their own observations and data as part of a global conversation about climate change.

H2O – An Ocean of Science is not comprehensive or authoritative, it is a mapping project that highlights some of the ways that increasing greenhouse gas emissions and global warming are affecting the planet’s oceans and waterways.H2O –  An Ocean of Science will be available on the UNB Art Centre Website and through Google Play and Apple App Stores beginning March 22.
