Ghosts of Violence
October 17, 2018 @ 7:30 pm
$20 – $40CHOREOGRAPHY: Igor Dobrovolskiy
MUSIC: Alfred Schnittke, Sergei Rachmaninoff
Atlantic Ballet Atlantique Canada is honoured to collaborate with the Mi’kmaq-Wolastoqey Centre for a special presentation of Ghosts of Violence as part of The Red Shawl Campaign. This ballet has been creatively adapted to honour the Indigenous women of the Wabanaki Territory – the Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, and the Passamaquoddy. In the spirit of authentic reconciliation, Igor Dobrovolskiy, Co-Founder and Artistic Director Atlantic Ballet Atlantique Canada, and Susan Chalmers-Gauvin have collaborated with faculty and volunteers to infuse Indigenous knowledge, culture and symbolism within Ghosts of Violence to bring attention to the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and to honour these women and their families. By weaving dance with Indigenous culture, music and language, Ghosts of Violence has embarked on an emotional expression of the Indigenous women we have lost.
Come early and join us for a panel discussion with Artistic Director Igor Dobrovolskiy and musical guests from 6:45 to 7:15 in the theatre prior to the performance.
Please be advised that this performance contains mature subject matter, not recommended for young children.
