From Human Hands: NB Fine Craft Fest

fbeventphoto_gala2016#FromHumanHands: NB Fine Craft Fest, New Brunswick’s premier fine craft festival presented by the New Brunswick Crafts Council, is coming back to #SaintJohn for a second year July 16 & 17 at the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal!

 #FromHumanHands will feature contemporary and traditional fine craft from New Brunswick master craftspeople working in ceramics, metal, jewellery, glass, fine art, fibre, leather and more! With 52 booths, this is the largest From Human Hands event to date! Participatory demos with the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design, a Handcrafted Fashion Show with NWH Modeling by Normand Hector, stone sculpting demos with Sculpture Saint John, an Interior Design Spotlight with Kim Jakobsen Design, a kids craft corner, and food and drink from Urban Deli and Picaroons Traditional Ales. PLUS live performances from Jane Blanchard, Jake & Hannah, Evan LeBlanc, Shamper’s Bluff, and a special Buskers on the Bay Festival hand-pan duo performance, alongside videos from Life’s Work: Six Conversations with Makers and studio interviews by Bell Aliant Community One!

All craft vendors are Juried Members of the New Brunswick Crafts Council and their work has been validated by their peers, ensuring high-quality, handcrafted products. Find unique works made in New Brunswick, meet the makers, try your hand at craft processes, buy local, and celebrate New Brunswick creative skill and entrepreneurship. The Fine Craft Gala on the evening of Friday, July 15th will kick off the 2016 #FromHumanHands: NB Fine Craft Festival at the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal in Saint John. With a theme of Diversity, this event will feature a speaker series with artist and instructor Brigitte Clavette, artist and instructor Judie Acquin-Miksovsky, and artist Philip Savage, recipient of the 2015 Nel Oudemans Award. The presentation of the 2016 Nel Oudemans award by the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation will also be a highlight of the evening, as well as NBCC “Best Booth”, “Best Body of Work”, and “Best New Product” awards. Gala attendees will receive an exclusive “First Look” preview of the NB Fine Craft Festival from 6-7pm to the live music of Nova Scotian fiddler Alycia Putnam. The gala commences at 7pm. Attendees will also enjoy craft beer from Picaroons Traditional Ales and delicious appetizers and spirits from Urban Deli.

 

The Nel Oudemans Award recognizes the pursuit of excellence in the fields of fine craft and design by emerging New Brunswick artisans. It is intended to support creative growth of artists in the early stages of their careers. In conjunction with a $2,000 award, the recipient of the Nel Oudemans Award is eligible to be funded to participate in the SOFA Chicago Educational Mission, sponsored by the Craft Alliance and ACOA through the International Business Development Agreement.

Presented by the New Brunswick Crafts Council, Canada’s oldest crafts council. Proceeds go to the NBCC, a provincial non-profit organization, to support fine craft in the province.
