BUCKLAND MERRIFIELD PRESENTS: Juliette Scheffers John Edward Cushnie

September 23, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Friday, September 23, 5 – 7 pm, Saint john

CENTRIFUGAL: New Crystalline Work by Juliette Scheffers

“an apparent force that acts outward on a body moving around a centre, arising from the body’s inertia”. (wikipedia)
Everything begins with a seed. From throwing clay on a potter’s wheel, to growing crystals in a glaze which expand outwards, to an idea shaped in the mind’s eye on form and expression.
The show entitled Centrifugal will showcase a new-to-me technique in crystalline glazing. Founded by potter Ian Childer’s of USA,  this technique involves etching oxides out of the crystals post-firing, leaving the piece with a brilliance by extracting the crystals from the background.

NEW PAINTINGS BY
JOHN EDWARD CUSHNIE

“All my life is mine no more,
The flying hours are gone:
Like transitory dreams giv’n o’er,
Whose images are kept in store,
By memory alone.”                 –  John Wilmot

John Edward Cushnie was born and raised in a secluded wilderness setting with little human contact and no formal education. John’s artistic practice maintains an early interest in the natural environment, and is focused on human vulnerability as it relates to the physical environment, notions of individuality, and contemporary representations of masculinity.
