The fourth edition of the Bordertown Festival will be held May 2 to 6 in Sackville New Brunswick. Bordertown is a sample of Sackville’s many festivals, art galleries, local businesses, and restaurants. The Festival is, “about crossing the lines that categorize our community, working together, and celebrating all that this small town has to offer”.
This year’s edition features events in music, fine arts, and theatre and also has many activities for children and families. It includes a mix of some of Sackville’s most popular local performers with performers with a regional and national profile. “We’re very excited about the diversity of this year’s festival”, said director Ron Kelly Spurles. “We’ve got something for just about everyone, and we’re really looking forward to the opportunity to show off our great little Town to visitors.”
As usual, this edition of the Festival has a strong music component. Saint John’s Tomato Tomato open the Festival on May 2nd, and May 3rd sees Country Music at the Sackville Legion with the Junior Jills, Drew Moore, and Stacey Lynn Read. Headliner David Myles will perform on May 4th as will Steve Haley and Klarka Weinwurm. On Saturday the 5th David Greenberg performs, and there is also Kitchen Party with Frantically Atlantic, a performance by Peter Karp, a concert by Skylar Cameron and Branden Olsen, and a performance by Three Bob Night. Beverly Glenn-Copeland and the Indigo Rising close out the music on Sunday May 6.
Fine Art events include a Heather Lawson stone carving workshop, an Art Hive, an Owens Make Something Sunday, and a photography show reception with Adrian Kiva. There are also many events for children and families, including: the above mentioned arts workshops; the Sackville Farmers Market; Anansi’s Web play for children; Beverly Glenn-Copeland’s Drum Workshop; and Medieval Arts, Displays and Workshops.
Special events occurring on the weekend include the Sackville Wellness Fair. The Festival also includes a Salon Reading of a scene from an original musical about Chester Cole called “Cole” to be presented by Live Bait Theatre.
