Auto sapiens by Christian Michaud
February 20, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
February 20 to April 3, 2021
A new exhibition, Auto sapiens by Christian Michaud, will be presented from February 20 to April 3, 2021, at the Galerie d’art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen. Produced over many years of pictorial research, this exhibition touches on notions of genesis and progress. Christian Michaud explains: “Auto sapiens is an installation work inspired thematically by two emblematic events of western modernity: painting as a means of visual representation and the invention of the gasoline-powered car.”
In an introductory text, Paul Édouard Bourque, curator, expands on the esthetic qualities of the artist’s work: “For Michaud, painting is a decidedly exploratory and experimental process, and he adopts a strategy of action painting that emphasizes the material quality of the pictorial surface. In addition to this, there is assembly where objects, devices, and gadgets join in the visual dynamics.”
Auto sapiens is conceived as an esthetic journey in three segments that weave through the gallery’s three exhibition spaces. Tanya Eindiguer, guest curator, presents the stages of this journey in an accompanying text. She brings forth the narrative quality of the exhibition and proposes that it “expands on a biographical story that attests to Michaud’s creative process with paintings and sculptures, but also found objects and serial arrangements”.
The artist recognizes the support of artsnb. The gallery will be open from 1 to 4 PM, Tuesday to Sunday. Admission is free and all are welcome.
