Sarah Jones, Curator of Jones Contemporary and Jones Auction House, presents an evening talk about Canadian artist, Alex Colville (1920-2013). We will consider Colville’s careful and sometimes disquieting approach to composition, his exploration of a sense of suspended time, unnerving tranquility, and the human gaze, and how his work fits in with the broader Canadian art historical context of the twentieth century.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sarah Jones (BA, MA Art History, Queen’s University) is a visual artist, art historian, and curator. She conducted her graduate research on twentieth-century Canadian art and Nova Scotian folk artist, Maud Lewis; she now teaches art history at Jones Gallery and University of New Brunswick Saint John. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards for her own art practice, including from the Canada Council for the Arts and ArtsNB.
