Geneviève & Matthieu’s installation-performance M. Gros is inspired by the Canadian investigative technique known as Mr. Big, which allows a police officer, undercover, to obtain a confession from a suspect of a serious unsolved crime. Led by shape-shifting characters, living sculptures, binomial weapons and a televisual sound environment, M. Gros tackles issues of identity such as surveillance, infiltration, idea theft and copying; but beyond the classics of investigative games, the story mostly stages a contemporary artistic flora.
The duo Geneviève & Matthieu, from Rouyn-Noranda, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, emerged in the late 1990s. Their work combines art, performance, music, and daily life. Using interdisciplinary practices, from happening to music composition and from performance to installation, this duo creates collective performances and stagings of sometimes festive but always human social scenes.
This project is presented as part of the Media Arts component of the Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie (VAM-FICFA). The exhibition will be on view from November 11 to December 18, 2022. Opening hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday and until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
Gallery On Queen is pleased to announce “Suburbia,” an exhibition by Stephen Lack. The opening of the show takes place on Friday, October 7th, 2022, at 5:30PM.
Stephen Lack was part of the influential East Village art scene in the early 80’s with artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Julian Schnabel and Sherie Levine. The subject matter of his work focuses on urban car culture, suburban architecture and cityscapes
His Neo-Expressionist style often depicts nostalgic 1950’s Americana charged with an underlying anxiety. As Lack puts it, “I like to seduce the viewer into the beauty of the image world and then reveal the threat.”
“Suburbia” will show at the Gallery until October 28th. You can find more details by clicking the “Exhibition Information” button below.

You’re Invited! This Friday, June 10th from 5-8 PM Paris Crew will be hosting the official opening for The Wooden Sketchbook by Rebecca Aldernet featuring a live performance by Apryll Aileen.
“The Wooden Sketchbook” is a collection and examination of everyday life. Altering the human figures in a way that observes the emotion and the purpose of the environment. A celebration in human form, and our altered perception in which we all view ourselves.
Rebecca Aldernet’s urban contemporary art defies explanation, providing commentary on the notion of collective versus private identities. Her art seeks to blur our perceptions of a shared reality. Her distorting of faces through organic and inorganic elements transcend our collective notion of how we exist in the physical world.
With over 100 pieces of never before seen artwork and a musical performance from soulful piano pop songstress Apryll Aileen, this will be a one of a kind event in the heart of Saint John.
