April 29, 2023 @ 7:30 pm 9:30 pm

Singer-songwriter Adam Baldwin has been a mainstay of the Atlantic Canada music scene for over a decade. With his sophomore full-length, Concertos & Serenades, Adam Baldwin – born and raised ā€œinside these imaginary linesā€ that denote Nova Scotia – offers an east coast testimony that challenges the typical tourism marketing gloss. Through eight masterful yarns, the songwriter bears witness and pays tribute to a tradition of desperation: sinners and losers, perpetual failures, and down-and-out phantoms that haunt his homeā€™s coastlines and back roads – without a passing judgement. Some of the tales happened, some didnā€™t, and most walk a tightrope between truth and fiction.

Starting as a member of rock combo Gloryhound before joining Matt Mays & El Torpedo in 2009, Baldwinā€™s own music has continued to evolve since his award winning self-titled solo debut EP in 2013. In 2016 Baldwin released his first full length album No Telling When (Precisely Nineteen Eight-Five) featuring the singles ā€œDaylightā€ and ā€œAnytimeā€. In 2019 he released the follow up No Rest for the Wicked, including ā€œSalvationā€ and ā€œDark Beside the Dawnā€.

In March 2020, with in person performances impossible due to COVID-19, Baldwin launched his Cross-Country Chin Up concert series, almost every Friday evening on YouTube. In addition to making this weekly opportunity to connect virtually with fans, he also raised funds for the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, Red Cross Stronger Together Nova Scotia Fund, RCMP Fallen Officer Fund, and the Black Cultural Society for Nova Scotia. The online concert series also produced two digital EPs: Chin Up Sessions (originals) and Songs for the Parlour (covers)

Lorenzo Society Wednesday Concert: Saint John String Quartet šŸŽ»

February 8, 2023 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

The Lorenzo Society is happy to remind you of the Weekly Wednesday Concert Series in honour of Dr. Li-Hong Xu continuing this Wednesday, February 8th.

Saint John String Quartet

Featured musician of the week: Saint John String Quartet

For over 30 years, the Saint John String Quartet [SJSQ] has stood among Canadaā€™s leading chamber music ensembles. Renowned for its flexibility, SJSQ is equally comfortable collaborating with blues artists and rock superstars, and performing Classical masterworks on its own.

The SJSQ performs over 125 concerts annually and serves as musicians-in-residence for both Symphony New Brunswick and the University of New Brunswick. It has performed for numerous heads of state and at prestigious venues the world over, including many countries in the Far East, Europe, and South America.

With many recordings to its credit, SJSQ has earned a Juno nomination [Classical Composition of the Year], and won an East Coast Music Award [Best Classical Album of the Year] and a Music NB award [Best Album of the Year]. Its albums feature new and innovative works and under-appreciated classical gems.

The Lorenzo Society is excited to welcome the Saint John String Quartet as this week’s Wednesday musicians.

* A Note on Parking: This term, The Lorenzo Society is unable to secure free parking on the campus. There are a limited amount of free parking spots by the Hans W. Klohn Commons, metered parking beside the Athletic Centre, and general lot parking for $5 a day. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, and are looking into alternate parking options for the Fall 2023 Term.

Matt Anderson šŸŽ¤

April 27, 2023 @ 8:00 pm 11:00 pm

Matt Andersen has logged countless miles following little white lines down the highway,
crossed vast oceans, and left audiences around the world forever changed by his
powerful, soul-baring song writing. Those travels have been fueled by a profound
devotion to music, a journey that began in New Brunswick with six steel strings.

Matt Anderson and the big bottle of joy with special guest the Hello Darlins

Since then, Andersenā€™s work has reached spectacular heights through rich arrangements and
fruitful collaboration, but at its core, one musical relationship has remained at the very
heart of the whole affair. For his latest long-player, the laid-bare House to House,
Andersen brings it all back home with the sweet chemistry that only a voice and guitar
alone, together, can conjure.
