The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley by Lauren Gunderson and Margo Melcon

Inspired by the characters in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, The Wickhams takes place at the estate of Elizabeth and Darcy, entering the servants’ quarters of Pemberley at the height of holiday preparations. A no-nonsense housekeeper, a spirited new maid, and a lovesick, enterprising footman see their work interrupted by a stream of guests from upstairs. Whether upstairs or downstairs, the residents are able to explore the confines of class and discover the warmth of family and the generosity of forgiveness.

Don’t miss this companion story to last year’s holiday production, Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley!

Featuring a cast of STU students and community misfits and hooligans.

Fredericton, NB – Black Box Productions is excited to present, for the first time maybe EVER, a very sketchy sketch comedy show, as part of our 2022/2023 season. St. Thomas University and Second City to boot, alum Jake Martin has been working with STU students and a few stragglers from the community putting together the hilarious sketch comedy show, The Other Dean’s List, that will premiere at The Ted Daigle Theatre on December 1 & 2, 2022.

Director Jake Martin, who like many artists returned to Fredericton during the pandemic, found comedy success in Toronto and is thrilled to be sharing their love for the craft with the STU community and fostering that skill on the campus. Jake shared, ‘I was so happy to get into rehearsals and find people like me, who were just as excited to dissect and fine-tune a joke as they were to perform it. There are some wickedly funny and talented people here in Fredericton and hopefully this isn’t the last time you will be seeing sketches from these fine folks!’

So, join us in the Ted Daigle for an evening of jokes, gags and a reprieve from the daily grind!

December 8, 2022 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

THURSDAYS, 12 PM-1 PM ADT TIME ZONE (GMT-3)

December 8th: Judie Acquin-Miksovsky

This year, Advanced Studio Practice’s Guest Lecture Series is partnering with the Beaverbrook Art Gallery to celebrate local artisans.

Advanced Studio Practice Guest Lecture Series

Hosted every Thursday from 12pm to 1pm, guest speakers will deliver an hour-long lecture, speaking to their practice, process, and life as a working artist.

The Guest Lecture Series models successful contemporary practice to NBCCD students. It informs, inspires, and ignites art and design dialogue and engagement within the local arts community.

The ASP Guest Lecture Series is hosted by the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design’s Advanced Studio Practice certificate program each year and is organized, in part, by its students, as well as being part of the program’s curriculum. It brings artists from across New Brunswick to speak to NBCCD students and the greater public.

Advanced Studio Practice students focus on self-directed studio work, in addition to implementing a professional career plan through networking, mentorship, pop-up shows, exhibitions, wholesale opportunities, and more. Students will acquire business skills and enhanced studio practice to launch into self-employment or a successful career in the creative cultural sector.

In 2022, the guest lectures will return to an in-person format allowing the community to gather and engage. Those who attend the lecture will gain free access to the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and its collections afterwards.

The ASP Guest Lecture Series focuses on New Brunswick and provides:

  • A platform for the presentation and advancement of professional artists, designers, and fine craft practitioners.
  • A time for dialogue about ideas and opportunities in the fields of contemporary practice.
  • A celebration of creative and cultural riches that we hold in Atlantic Canada.

These noon-hour sessions celebrate the creative, cultural, and academic achievements of artists, designers, and fine craft practitioners.

Theatre UNB Presents Museum by Tina Howe, Dec. 1-3

As the list of famous artworks attacked with tomato soup, mashed potatoes, maple syrup, (and who knows what foodstuff next) continues to grow, Theatre UNB is set to demonstrate how life imitates art with a timely comedy set amidst the world of the fine arts.

In Tina Howe’s Museum, the final day of a group show by a trio of iconoclastic visual artists at a prestigious American art gallery draws a large crowd of art snobs and eccentrics, philistines and philanthropists, more than a few would-be vandals and art thieves, and all those confused folks just looking for the Colonial Quilts and Weathervanes. At the centre of it all, trying to keep some order and quiet amid this three-ring circus (the show is aptly titled “The Broken Silence”) is one very harried security guard who just wants people to stop stealing the clothespins. Museum is a high-spirited, laugh-out-loud comedy that questions the nature and value of art and our obsession with it and those who create it, even as it suggests that the most compelling artworks we encounter in our daily lives might be one another.

Museum is directed by Len Falkenstein and features a cast of 21 UNB Drama students who play 40 different characters in the course of the 90 minute play. Performances will take place at 7:30 PM nightly, Thursday, December 1st through Saturday, December 3rd at Memorial Hall on the UNB campus. Tickets ($15 regular, $12 senior/underemployed, $10 for students) will be available at the door (cash or debit/credit). Patrons are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to have time to view the artworks in the gallery before the show. For more information, phone 447-3078 or email lfalken@unb.ca

Peter Powning Retrospective

Peter Powning Retrospective ⬅

December 3, 2022 @ 4:00 pm 6:00 pm

December 3, 2022 – March 21, 2023 at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.

Peter Powning Retrospective

This major retrospective exhibition will survey the artistic practice of New Brunswick’s Peter Powning from his early production pottery through a remarkable 50-year career trajectory that includes the exploration of a wide diversity of forms and diverse materials, such as glass, clay, cast bronze, stone and steel. An alchemist of sorts, he creates new sculptural forms that seem to stand outside of both time and place. Powning has spent a lifetime pursuing his art, and he has distinguished himself as one of Canada’s most accomplished and prominent visual artists. Through the high calibre of his work and commitment, he holds a unique place in the larger arena of Canadian art.

Curated by John Leroux and organized by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.
