Choral Fest 2023
October 20-22
Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick
Johannes Brahms Schicksalslied and Various Canadian songs
Hosted by The Mount Allison Choral Society
Conductor Kiera Galway
Accompanist Thomas Gonder
and the Mount Allison University Chamber Orchestra
Conducted by James Kalyn
Early bird deadline to register is Wednesday,
September 20, 2023.
Join singers from around the region in one of the world’s greatest
choral works.
Brahms’ Schicksalslied (Song of Fate) is an orchestrally accompanied
choral setting of a poem written by Friedrich Hölderlin, and has all
of Brahms’ characteristic force and emotion: longing, dramatic tension
and expansive joy. By some estimations Brahms’ best choral work, it
has retained its popularity ever since it was composed and is a
must-sing in the repertoire of every choral singer.
Every year since 1982 until the pandemic year of 2020, singers from
New Brunswick and beyond gathered at the New Brunswick Choral
Federation’s Choral Fest to rehearse and perform a great choral work
under one of Canada’s leading conductors. The New Brunswick Choral
Federation is delighted to have Dr. Kiera Galway, along with the Mount
Allison University Choral Society and Chamber Orchestra, and Christ
Church Cathedral’s Thomas Gonder, to support the full return of this
joyful event.
This year’s organizers want Choral Fest to be a true festival of
choirs, with as much participation from choirs as we can have. So,
please check out the Come As A Choir rate!
Please register as soon as possible, so that we can provide music to
you in a timely manner.
