The Elm City String Quartet continues its season with a contrast of minimalism, romanticism and tango. Piazzollaâs TangoBallet, an excellent example of nuevo tango, is a programmatic suite, and featuring six âfilm scenesâ: introduction, the street, encounter / forgetfulness, cabaret, solitude, and the street again.
Arvo PĂ€rtâs Summa is inspired by Medieval chant and Renaissance polyphony, and was originally composed as an a cappella vocal work for four singers. Mendelssohnâs Quartet Four is full of virtuosic passion, charming dance movements, and intimate romantic lyricism. While these pieces are from different ends of a musical spectrum, they all manage to get to the heart of what music is all about, in their own way.

Saint John – March 14, 7:30PM at the Saint John Arts Centre – 20 Peel Plaza, Saint John

Trained in printmaking and photography with a BFA from the University of Moncton (2013), in her art practice Arsenault combines print and textile work with installation, video projections and sound art. Snippets of memories evoked from images and words drawn from archives and anecdotes account for her personal history and those of others, creating a fragmented and re-sewn narrative. The questioning of memory, its capacity for veracity or its unconscious distortions is at the heart of her research.
Arsenault currently works in Moncton, from the Aberdeen Cultural Centre. She has participated in several group exhibitions held in the Maritime Provinces, as well as solo exhibitions and creative residencies in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec. She has been working as the Curator of Community Engagement at the Galerie d’art Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen since 2019, in addition to being an independent curator.
memorandum is a collaborative project that has been developing since 2021, and is a direct response to the isolation caused by the pandemic. Donations of sweaters and blankets knitted by members of various communities have been used as materials for the construction of a comfortable and safe space where individuals are encouraged to remember and let go. The knitted designs before their destruction are transformed into silkscreens, leaving a trace of their original form and function, as well as the words and thoughts left by the contributors. A projection shows the artist engaging in repetitive actions – a kind of self-soothing practice in a fit of anxiety.
This project is presentedas part of the Media Arts component of FICFA thanks to funding support from the Canada Arts Council, the Province of New Brunswick, the City of Moncton and ArtsNB.
The complete program will be revealed during a press conference which will take place on Tuesday October 18 at 10 am at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre. Tickets will be available on the FICFA website at a later date, follow our social media for updates.

Through this event, we hope to create strategies and develop the dance community together, since dance is an art form free of language barriers.
The 4th edition of Carte Blanche Acadie will take place on November 26th, 2022, at the Bernard-LeBlanc Hall at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre, Moncton, NB, at 8 p.m. The event will be followed the next day by a business meeting to discuss the development of the dance scene. This meeting will be conducted in both official languages, English and French, at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre.
This is a wonderful opportunity to come to Moncton for a weekend dedicated to the Art of Dance! Carte Blanche Acadie (November 26th, 8 PM-10 PM) The aim of Carte Blanche Acadie is to offer a platform adapted to the needs of dance artists during which they can present work. The maximum length of each presentation will be 10 minutes. Whether the project is in the research stage, in development or about to be completed, the only criteria to participate is to have something to share. Even improvisation is more than welcome.
You would only have to specify what you would like to show in the application form. The presence of peers and an informed audience will allow you to have feedback on your work whether it is vocal or sensory.
Presenting, sharing and discussing in an inclusive environment are the objectives of Carte Blanche. In addition to providing a platform to perform, we will be providing a video of your performance as well as photographs that you can use for grants and future applications. Each act will receive an honorarium. The money accumulated at the door (in the form of a voluntary contribution) will also be divided equally between the acts and given to the person/company who submitted the project.
As for the selection process, we would like to accept as many projects as possible, but if we do not have enough time, as we will only have 2 hours for the event, we will draw candidates by lottery. Preference will be given for artists from the Atlantic provinces.
The chosen artists will be responsible for covering their own travel and accommodation expenses. Nevertheless, we can supply a letter of invitation to those who wish to submit a travel grant application. It may also be possible to find housing among local artists.
Please fill out the attached application form here.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 9th, 2022.
We will let you know by the end of September if your application was successful. For any questions, please write to: carteblanche.acadie@gmail.com
