Harvesting the Arts Festival
September 24, 2016 @ 9:00 am - September 25, 2016 @ 2:00 am
We would like to welcome you to the 13th anniversary of the Harvesting the Arts Festival Saturday, September 24th, 2016. Harvesting the Arts Festival celebrates art in action, providing the opportunity for a variety of venues, mediums, and artists to be welcomed to our community and for visitors to explore the vibrant arts and culture scene of the region. September 24th holds an additional commemoration for it marks eleven years from the date of the adoption of the City of Saint John Arts and Culture Policy.
A key element to the festival is the nationally celebrated DOORS OPEN concept: welcoming our community and its visitors to witness art in action in a variety of venues and mediums. This allows for the shops and businesses that operate all year round within the business in arts (BIA) to become a part of the vibrancy infused into the Uptown core.
This is paired with the roots of the festival: the King’s Square and Loyalist Plaza OPEN-AIR MARKETS. The mainstay of the festival, these two locations welcome professional artists as vendors in the festival’s multidisciplinary environment.
We are likewise pleased to incorporate a presence at King’s Square for various organizations to host a WORKSHOP or DEMONSTRATION for the public, benefitting from being position directly within the interactive flood of foot traffic and atmosphere of this beautifully refurbished public space. This includes MUSICAL PERFORMANCES in the bandstand.
Another wonderful addition to the heart of the city is with the establishment of FREE WALKING TOURS, being launched Uptown throughout the day’s festivities. Each focuses on a different aspect of the highlights within the City’s Arts and Culture Policy: shop, eat, work, play, and live.
Looking forward to harvesting the arts with you this autumn!
