SYMPHONY NEW BRUNSWICK’S GIFT TO SAINT JOHN

August 27, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free Family Outdoor Concert by the Harbour August 27 at 2PM.

Does an afternoon in the sunshine beside the harbour with great music, stories and activities for children (of all ages) sound like the perfect gift for any family?

Symphony New Brunswick invites the family to its summer event of music, stories and entertainment.

Outside of the beautiful Marco Polo Cruise Terminal (inside in case of inclement weather) Join SNB’s smaller orchestra, Camerata NB, under the direction of concertmaster David Adams and with special guest, baritone Paul Bustin for a program of well-known and popular tunes that will keep the family’s feet tapping. Special events for the children include theatrical stories, the “Pop-Up Library”, face painting by Cathie Wilson; balloon twisting by Christine and magic tricks by Mr. Zapz.

The August 27 concert will also feature the premiere performances of the winning stories and music presentations. This SNB story contest, set up in collaboration with Sculpture Saint John, has found two fantastic poems that will be set to music, performed by SNB musicians and narrated by local NB actor Tim Turnell of Theatre Narcissus 12, who will also act as Master of Ceremony for the events.

The Stone Story Contest prizes will be presented by Sculpture Saint John Executive Director Diana Alexander at the event. Congratulations to the under 18 winner Kathryn Reilly for her sculpture based poem “Stone Dust” and to the over 18 winner, the established writer Beth Weatherbee, with a poem depicting the constant changes to stone and natural sculpturing by the elements.

This musical event is Symphony New Brunswick’s gift to the communities of greater Saint John and their families. “Music and stories belong together and we hope that the experiences at our Free Outdoor Concert will inspire both the creation of and the appreciation of these wonderful art forms.” Says SNB General Manager Jennifer Grant.

SNB thanks to the Port of Saint John and to the city of Saint John Community Grants for its generous support of this project.
