Advanced Metalwork

In-Process Creative Mentorship. This workshop is part of our continuing In-Process Creative Studios. Led by acclaimed artist Brigitte Clavette, this workshop is designed for metal artists with an active metals practice in functional or sculptural works. The course is designed to be an intensive, collaborative weekend of idea sharing, mentorship, peer critique, and critical dialogue. Participants will come with an idea, body of work or in-progress piece to workshop in the metalsmithing studio at Sunbury Shores, equipped for bronze, copper, and silver. Limited to 6, participants will receive one-on-one mentorship and will delve into conceptual and critical thinking to push their practice forward. Instructed by Brigitte Clavette.
July 22 – 24, Friday (7 – 9 pm), Saturday & Sunday (9:30 am – 4 pm). $250.00, at Sunbury Shores Arts and Nature Centre.

About the Instructor: Winner of the 2022 Governor General’s Bronfman Award, silversmith Brigitte Clavette has been Head of the Jewellery and Metal Arts Studio and taught at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design in Fredericton since 1985. She has also taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, the Nunavut Arctic College, the Haliburton School of Arts and the Community College of New Brunswick in Dieppe.
Her hollow ware and silver works have been shown internationally and are held in private and public collections across the country and internationally, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England, and the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Clavette became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2000, won the Excellence Award for Craft from the Province of NB in 2002, the prestigious Strathbutler Award in 2006, and in 2022 the Governor General’s Award. She has been a regular and highly regarded contributor to Sunbury Shores programming for many years.
