Mount Allison Symphonic Band Concert Features Student Conductors, April 6th

“Songs and Dances for Wind Band” presented by the Mount Allison University Symphonic Band will feature five student conductors from the Department of Music as well as faculty conductor Dr. Gregory Burton. The concert will take place Friday, April 6 at 7:30 pm in Convocation Hall.
Burton explains, “It is very important for emerging conductors to gain performance experience working with excellent ensembles. Some of these Mount Allison students will go on to careers as music teachers and conductors. Conducting the Symphonic Band can provide a great learning opportunity.” The Mount Allison student conductors are David Kwon, Keelin Howe, Luke Rayworth, Jarred Beckerton, and Bryenton Innes.
Repertoire on the programme ranges from classic works by Vaughan Williams and Richard Strauss to contemporary works such as Timothy Mahr’s challenging tone poem,When I Close My Eyes, I See Dancers. This is the final performance of the season by the Mount Allison Symphonic Band and is presented free of charge to the public.
