Artist in Residence: Natalie Sappier-Samaqani Cocahq
Community Sharing Circle Sept 18, 6:30pm (free event)
Hi! My name is Natalie Sappier, I am a Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet) Indigenous storyteller from Tobique First Nation, New Brunswick. I explore storytelling through music, creative writing, spoken word and visual art. I am currently the artist in residence at Sunbury Shores working on my new play. One of the big subjects in my play is learning about my Ancestors: my Indigenous Ancestry of my mother and the unknown ancestor I carry through my father. I grew up on a First Nation all my life. It is the upbringing that I know. But I know my Indigenous brothers and sisters travelled and hunted throughout these lands. I stand in the St Andrew waters and I know I am still home. For most of my path I have been telling the stories through my Indigenous lens. Knowing there is unknown ancestry in me I am curious to know how to bring these two worlds together. To bridge that relationship, I would like to invite all of you to come into a circle of sharing where we can talk about our ancestry and our connections with the lands and waters. We can share through song, stories and/or visual work. You are also invited to come in and listen and be part of the circle in that way. |
