post-espoir: Pictorial and Literary Explorations in Three Voices
May 2 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm
post-espoir : pictorial and literary explorations in three voices is a group exhibition as part of the Frye Literary Festival, with works by Lula Carballo, Andre deBruijn, and Émilie Turmel.

In resonance with Lula Carballo’s collection “Post-espoir“, artists Andrea deBruijn and Émilie Turmel give form to a series of prints exploring the visceral after-effects of transgression, which combine with Lula’s work to create a whole. Through a creative dialogue at a distance, the author accompanies the other two, and together they immerse themselves in the heart of a story where violence engenders a complex process of transformation, marked by crumbling and fragmentation.
Andrea and Emilie’s prints don’t simply illustrate this poetry, as the collection already contains visual elements that are also part of the exhibition; rather, they extend its emotional and sensory resonance. Each work acts as a superimposition on the other, inviting the viewer to feel the fragility and strength that emerge from the traumatic experience at the heart of this collection, making the invisible visible, offering two new voices to what has been silenced, and creating a space for dialogue and catharsis around violent experiences.
The exhibition post-espoir: Pictorial and Literary Explorations in Three Voices will be on view from April 25 until May 11, 2025. A vernissage will be held in the presence of the artists on the second floor of the Centre Culturel Aberdeen, on May 2, 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m., opening for the Frye Jam!
We look forward to seeing you there!
