May 13, 2023 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Beginner-friendly videography course for Indigenous youth ages 19-35
Mawi’Art: Wabanaki Artist Collective, in partnership with Ulnooweg Education, is pleased to offer
this series of Saturday workshops to introduce participants to the world of videography and
documentary film making. From the basics of good storytelling to the intricacies of camera
settings, colour design and navigating a career as a filmmaker, this program is designed to
teach participants everything they need to know to bring their visions to life and make a living
through the exciting and growing art of film.
Participants will have access to 4K video cameras, laptops, filming accessories and more in
order to reach the goal of this workshop series: creating their very own film as a final project.
We will begin by diving into the fundamentals of good filmmaking and progress through the
stages of pre-production, production and post-production. By the end of the workshops,
students will have an understanding of how to make a film start to finish.
The workshop series will wrap up by giving students tools to succeed in the world of film. Now
that they’ve learned how to make the film, they have to learn what to do with it. Participants will
learn to navigate social media, market their films, screen their work a film festivals and make a
living as a filmmaker.
