Christine Koch: Meet the Artist ๐ŸŽค

April 27 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm

Newfoundland-based artist Christine Koch will be Artist in Residence at Sunbury Shores from April 13 – 27, 2024. Koch is a well-known and respected printmaker and painter and her residency will take place in the Print Studio.

Christine’s artistic practice over the past two decades has led her to travel throughout northern Canada and work with geologists in Nunatsiavut and Nunavut, with geographers on the glaciers of the Torngat Mountains (Nunatsiavut), with northern ecologists in the Yukon, and with oceanographers and marine biologists in the Labrador Sea, Baffin Bay, and the Northwest Passage.

The result of her expeditions is a collection of images based on the remote and dramatic landscapes she saw, while her artwork portrays the beauty and vulnerability of the environments she explored.

There will be a Meet the Artist with Christine on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

Camille-Zoรฉ Valcourt-Synnott (she/her) is a multidisciplinary artist from Quebec (QC), now based in Kโ€™jipuktuk (Halifax, NS). She graduated with a BFA (Print Media) from Concordia University in 2018 and an MFA from NSCAD University in 2020.

Her performances reflect on the value of the artistโ€™s work, perceptions of productivity and where life and art meet. Referencing everyday tasks, (un)remunerated work and invisible labor, her practice points to the flaws already present within the arts but that are, too often, not acknowledged. She is interested in the intersections between labor, gender and class dynamics, and how they all play a part in making certain audiences feel welcome in different art spaces. Her performance and text-based work has been shown in artist-run centers and galleries across Canada.

Mbwa by Pat Joy

Mbwa by Pat Joy ๐Ÿ•

September 23, 2022 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

Presented at Imago from September 23rd to October 20th 2022.
Opening reception Friday September 23rd from 6 to 8 pm.

Pat Joy was born and resides in the city of Moncton, New Brunswick. He enjoys tattooing, printmaking, painting and arranging objects.

A print by Pat Joy

Pat Joy thoroughly enjoys the process of block printing, repeating images and carving, and uses this medium to make images that are simple in form and easily readable from a distance. In his paintings, he experiments with colour and the freedom of loose naivety, allowing himself to paint quickly and in the moment without much contemplation. Pat Joy is a proud member of Imago and loves community.

Dogs are said to have another set of eyes, to see the dead and those who trespass against the living and nature. Dogs are companions and friends to us and our ancestors. They live with us in the village, ward threats from our homes and hunt in the wilderness. Dogs have the ability to traverse spaces between here and there. Bless them and bless you.
