Matt Andersen has logged countless miles following little white lines down the highway, crossed vast oceans, and left audiences around the world forever changed by his powerful, soul-baring song writing. Those travels have been fueled by a profound devotion to music, a journey that began in New Brunswick with six steel strings.
Since then, Andersen’s work has reached spectacular heights through rich arrangements and fruitful collaboration, but at its core, one musical relationship has remained at the very heart of the whole affair. For his latest long-player, the laid-bare House to House, Andersen brings it all back home with the sweet chemistry that only a voice and guitar alone, together, can conjure.

Sappyfest Presents: A free concert with Century Egg, Lil Omar & Klarka Weinwurm at the Royal Canadian Legion!
Century Egg (NS) Century Egg is a colourful band boasting a diverse range of influences and artistic traditions. Refreshingly modern and fun music about the importance of chosen family, staying together and the love of daydreaming and eating wonderful food.
Lil Omar (NB) Oscar Tecu (lil Omar) is a Latin American songwriter based out of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Touching on subjects like love, racial injustices, and mental illness, Tecu portrays the refugee experience in Canada through song writing by blending traditional Latin American rhythms with western folk rock. By drawing inspiration from Latin American telenovelas and Joāo Gilberto’s bossa nova style, lil Omar’s multilayered compositions tell a story whether lyrically or instrumentally.
Klarka Weinwurm (NB) A Triangular force lifted from the marshes of Sackville, New Brunswick. Soft vocal melodies of folk and the grit of garage, Weinwurm (guitar/vocals) along with Glenn Barrington (drums) and Evan Matthews (Bass) craft their own form of sludgy alternative indie rock. Klarka’s straightforward and catchy riffs have pop spirit and charm, paired with a heavy driving beat. Weinwurm’s work is dynamic, undulating between full-band distorted grooves and softer, sparser contemplations over folklike lone guitar melodies.
Masks are required except when actively drinking for all show attendees. Please note this is a shared venue, so there may be unmasked people in shared/common areas.
The AX Music Series is pleased to present our next concert, featuring award-winning singer-songwriter Cathy Hutch. Cathy is a multi-talented performer who writes and sings from the core of her very being. Her music has been referred to as blues-country-pop, and her engaging performance style offers a true genre-crossing, good time.
About Cathy Hutch
Cathy is an award-winning singer/songwriter from New Brunswick who has released two critically acclaimed albums and is currently working on her third. She has performed three times at the ECMA’s, and completed her third coast to coast, Canada-wide solo tour this past fall. Her setlist contains an eclectic blend of classic rock, blues, folk and country originals and covers, delivered with passion and finesse.
“Cathy Hutch is everything that is good about live music. She is charming, witty, multi-talented and has a smile that would light the way out of a bar during a power failure. With or without accompaniment, Cathy is every bit a professional entertainer. As a songwriter, Cathy exhibits insights into the human condition that show her to have a heart as big as her voice. And man can she liven up a crowd! She rocks, she rolls, and, above all, she entertains.” Richard Blaquiere

Whether in Fredericton or Moncton, Saint John or Saint Andrews, Edmundston, Grand Falls or Bathurst, audience members are transported by the music, the musicianship, and the indomitable spirit of the performers.
The young musicians harness their superhero spirits offstage as well, rising to their personal challenges, succeeding in their academics and considering bigger dreams for the future.
Their spirit is why NBYO has been invited to play at Carnegie Hall. Their spirit is why we eagerly accepted the challenge of performing in one of the world’s most iconic performing arts spaces.
The Opera Workshop of l’Université de Moncton’s Music Department, under the artistic direction of Professor Lisa Roy, presents Edwin Penhorwood’s comic opera Too Many Sopranos.
Imagine what would happen if five sopranos, upon arriving at the gates of heaven, were to learn that the heavenly choir could only accommodate one soprano. This is the hilarious setting for this pastiche of the operatic genre, which references the stereotypes associated with sopranos and the unenviable reputation of some old-fashioned productions. Each character represents a vocal type or person normally found in an opera production. Composer Edwin Penhorwood has cleverly incorporated short performances of various great operatic works.
Directed by Karène Chiasson, this entertaining and humorous production will feature members of the voice class as well as music and drama students on stage.
