The Town of Sackville Department of Tourism and Business Development will be accepting proposals for a performing artist residency in the Sackville Waterfowl Park, and/or adjacent Visitor Information Centre, until Friday, March 5. Residency length can vary, but the proposed length of the residency should be included in the Performer’s proposal, and it should not begin before June 1 and must end by September 30, 2021. Proposals must include a plan for work in the Waterfowl Park (and/or the adjacent Visitor Information Centre). The work should include an aspect that will be of interest to the general public, and a hands-on aspect that will be of interest to younger people. COVID 19 restrictions, such a physical distancing and wearing masks, should be addressed in the proposal.
Applicants must reside in Sackville.
The proposal should include:
- A proposed date to host an open-house to allow the public to view the work in progress and to see the artist at work (or alternately to converse with the artist)
- A proposed date to host an event for young people. It is possible the two aspects (open house and event for young people) could be achieved in the same event.
- A proposed date for a performance of the work (or work in progress) with a performer’s talk and a possible reception.
- As noted above, how COVID 19 restrictions, such a physical distancing and wearing masks, will be addressed in the project.
Performing Artists should also indicate how they will assist in the promotion of their project and any activities or events related to it.
Selection criteria will include: past experience; the ability to carry out the project; appeal to a general audience and possibilities for interaction with the public; artistic interest of the project; and ability to insure a COVID safe environment at all phases of the project.
The chosen performing artist will receive an honorarium of $1500. Proposals should include a project outline, an artist’s cv, and samples of work. Materials should be deposited at Sackville Town Hall by Friday, March 5 at 4:30 pm. to the attention of Ron Kelly Spurles, or sent via email to r.kellyspurles@sackville.com.
