The Plain Site Theatre Festival, founded and curated by Alex Rioux in partnership with Black Box Productions and Solo Chicken, is proud to return once again to the St. Thomas University campus in November 2022. The Plain Site Theatre Festival is New Brunswick’s premier 2SLGBTQIA+ theatre festival dedicated to promoting queer focused storytelling and visibility by providing emerging artists and students a safer space to develop their craft under the guidance of established 2SLGBTQIA+ artists.
Although we just wrapped up our 3rd Annual Fest in March 2022, delayed from 2021 because of Covid 19, we have decided to move back to our usual Fall slot for the 4th Annual, which we’ll call ‘2022 Part 2 Electric Boogaloo’. Double the Plain Site, double the fun! And so we are thrilled to announce the 4th Annual Plain Site Theatre Festival, CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS.
As the festival grows it is always so heartwarming to see new connections being formed between students and community members. With this in mind, the theme for this year’s playwriting contest will be the question ‘How do we make connections?’ A community cannot thrive without strong connections and so we encourage playwrights to reflect on how we build strong connections with others as the catalyst for this year’s submissions.

Writers and performers are featured on social media posts and may be featured in related promotion of the festival (ie, press releases, featured in articles in news publications, etc) If you are not comfortable having a public presence with the festival please reach out with your situation so that we can best accommodate you while keeping your safety in mind.
