Here are links to national organizations focused on industry standards (minimum fees, labour issues, etc):

CARFAC: Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) is incorporated federally as a non-profit corporation that is the national voice of Canada’s professional visual artists. As a non-profit association and a National Art Service Organization, our mandate is to promote the visual arts in Canada, to promote a socio-economic climate that is conducive to the production of visual arts in Canada, and to conduct research and engage in public education for these purposes.

CARCC: Copyright Visual Arts represents close to 1000 Canadian and Quebec visual and media artists.  It negotiates and issues licenses that allow the legal use of its affiliates’ works, collects the royalties and pays the artists.  Affiliation with Copyright Visual Arts is separate from membership in CARFAC or RAAV.  Any interested artist from Canada and Quebec may affiliate with Copyright Visual Arts. Users of works created by affiliates of Copyright Visual Arts must obtain licenses from Copyright Visual Arts.

FACTOR: The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings(FACTOR) is a public/private partnership that supports the production of sound recordings by Canadian musicians and helps Canadian music companies make recordings available to a wider public.

CHRC: The Cultural Human Resources Council (CHRC) brings together cultural workers and employers to address training, career development and other human resource issues. The cultural sector includes a labour force of over 539,000 and several thousand businesses and organizations – large, medium and small, not-for-profit and for-profit.

IMAA: The Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA) is a member-driven non-profit national organization working to advance and strengthen the media arts community in Canada.  Representing over 90 independent film, video, audio, and new media production, distribution, and exhibition organizations in all parts of the country, the IMAA serves over 16,000 independent media artists and cultural workers.

Writers’ Union of Canada: The Writers’ Union of Canada is the national organization of professionally published book authors. Now over 2,000 members strong, the Union was founded in 1973 to work with governments, publishers, booksellers, and readers to improve the conditions of Canadian writers.

Canadian Craft Federation: As a Federation of organizations, the CCF/FCMA works with the Provincial and Territorial Craft Councils and affiliate organizations to unite, enrich, empower and celebrate the professional contemporary craft sector through collaborative action, networking, and community development.

ACTRA: Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA)‘s principal role is to negotiate, administer and enforce collective agreements to provide performers with equitable compensation as well as safe and reasonable working conditions. Performers who work ACTRA have access to a full range of health benefits provided by ACTRA Fraternal Benefit Society (AFBS). Created in 1975 by ACTRA members, AFBS was formed to provide insurance and retirement services at a time when benefits available through other insurance companies could not meet the distinctive needs of performers.
