Call for Submissions for Studio Watch Emerging Artist Series: Painting

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery is calling for submissions for the Studio Watch Emerging Artist Series: Painting 2016 exhibition. This innovative series provides New Brunswick artists, in the early stages of their career, with the opportunity for a solo exhibition, the publication of an exhibition brochure and the purchase of one of their works by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. The Studio Watch Emerging Artist Series: Painting 2016 exhibition will be held at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton from October 20, 2016 to January 15, 2017. To be eligible an artist must:

  • Reside and produce art in New Brunswick (consideration will be given to permanent residents of New Brunswick attending higher education degree programs or conducting temporary projects outside of New Brunswick);
  • Have at least five years of experience in art making;
  • Have yet to have a solo exhibit in a major public gallery or museum;
  • Have a particular body of work ready for exhibition for October 2016. Each submission package must contain the following components:
  • Curriculum vitae;
  • Artist statement (400-500 words;
  • Five (5) digital image samples of work (JPEG format, file size 500-800 KB).

Council of the Arts Fredericton Performing Arts Scholarship

Students planning to pursue studies in a recognized program in the performing arts are invited to apply for the Council of the Arts Fredericton Performing Arts Scholarship. The annual award is valued at $5000. It is intended for residents of the greater Fredericton area. The course of study can take place at any institution recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency and must involve performance or production. Each year during River Jam, there is a special award presented in honour of Diane London, beloved diva of the Downtown Blues Band, whose final performance was at River Jam 2004 before losing her battle to cancer. The award honours a local musician, artist, or arts related woman with a creative spirit and talent who gives of themselves to the community and who exemplify the spirit and character of Diane. NB Fine Craft Gala tickets available now!

The Fine Craft Gala on the evening of Friday, July 15th will kick off the 2016#FromHumanHands: NB Fine Craft Fest at the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal in Saint John. With a theme of Diversity, this event will feature a speaker series with artist and instructor Brigitte Clavette, artist and instructor Judie Acquin-Miksovsky, and artist Philip Savage, recipient of the 2015 Nel Oudemans Award. The presentation of the 2016 Nel Oudemans award by the Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation will also be a highlight of the evening, as well as NBCC “Best Booth”, “Best Body of Work”, and “Best New Product” awards. Gala attendees will receive an exclusive “First Look” preview of the NB Fine Craft Festival from 6-7pm to the live music of Nova Scotian fiddler Alycia Putnam. The gala commences at 7pm. Miracle on 34th Street Auditions

The New Brunswick Crafts Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting fine craft in New

Brunswick, is seeking volunteers for the From Human Hands: NB Fine Craft Fest & Gala on July 15-17,

2016 at the Marco Polo Cruise Terminal in Saint John. The annual New Brunswick Fine Craft Festival,

presented by the NBCC, is a vibrant cultural arts festival that features original works by award winning

New Brunswick craftspeople, providing an opportunity for the public to connect with makers, discover

locally made craft, witness live fine craft demonstrations, and participate in an important part of our

New Brunswick culture and heritage. Along with established fine craft professionals, this festival will

showcase emerging artisans and students from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, plus live

performances by local musicians, a Handcraft Fashion Show with NWH Modeling, a kids craft corner, an

Interior Design Spotlight with Kim Jakobsen Design, and foods and drink from Urban Deli and Picaroons

Traditional Ales.

Festival hours are as follows:

Project Coordinator for a Start-up Artist Residency in St. Andrews

Kingsbrae International Residence for the Arts (KIRA) is an emerging artist residency located in

St. Andrews (NB) which will be welcoming its first residents in the spring of 2017.

KIRA offers a four-month contract starting July 1 st and ending on October 31 st with a possible


Working under the supervision of KIRA Steering Committee, the Project Coordinator will:

– Customize KIRA’s key strategic documents according to the requirements of potential

funding sources

– Write grant proposals to various levels of government for an infrastructure project to be

undertaken in 2017

– Write grant proposals to various levels of government to obtain operating funding for

2017 (e.g. salary for the residency’s director)

– Develop proposals to obtain support from private organizations

– Manage the Call for Applications process

– Create a web presence for KIRA

– Establish a communication strategy for the web site and the Call for Applications to

reach relevant cultural networks such as artist residencies organizations, art

organizations, art publications, etc.

– Perform other duties relevant to the project


Experience in working in an art/cultural organization

Experience in writing grant proposals

Experience in web communication

Excellent writing skills

Ability to work autonomously and to manage several files at the same time

Recognized for having excellent people skills

Recognized for having excellent coordinating skills

Knowledge of art networks in Canada

Degree in arts/cultural management is an asset

Working off-site is possible. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
