Landworks, Walk and Make with Jan Yates

September 10, 2018 @ 10:00 am - September 14, 2018 @ 4:00 pm

$500

In this workshop, our goal is to understand nature by directly participating in nature as intimately as we can. This is an opportunity to engage with the natural world by walking and making art within it.
In response to St Andrews and The Bay of Fundy’s diverse natural environment, we will ‘walk and make’ daily at various locations. Jan will guide you in making ephemeral land art utilizing materials from each site’s immediate surroundings such as sand, driftwood, litter, seaweed, stones and foliage. We’ll also review the evolution of land art, from plein air painting (Claude Monet) to contemporary environmental art (Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Long) as well as ‘walking’ art (Hamish Fulton). Those who would like to draw or paint ‘en plein air’ as well as photographers will also benefit from this workshop. ‘Works in progress’ as well as finished landworks will be documented via video.
No experience necessary! We will walk and make rain or shine, so please dress accordingly.

“We often forget that WE ARE NATURE. Nature is not something separate from us. So when we say that we have lost our connection to nature, we’ve lost our connection to ourselves.” ― Andy Goldsworthy.
