Harvest / Moisson – Paintings by Yvon Gallant and Alvin Richard

October 12, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Fog Forest Gallery in Sackville, NB is very pleased to open a new exhibition of paintings by Yvon Gallant and Alvin Richard with a public reception on Thursday, Oct 12, 2017 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.  All are welcome.

“Harvest / Moisson – Paintings by Yvon Gallant and Alvin Richard” will consist of fourteen paintings by each artist.  The two Acadian artists, both from Moncton, have followed very different paths in becoming professional artists, and each has a distinct approach to their art and a unique artistic style. They have worked on this project independently and their individual approach styles add contrast and interest to the exhibition.

Janet Crawford, owner of Fog Forest says, “This exhibition will be a ‘harvest’ in the true sense of the word by bringing together the bountiful creative energies of these two painters.   Gallant and Richard have sown and harvested some very imaginative and beautiful paintings.”

Yvon Gallant, born in Moncton in 1950, was one of the Universite de Moncton’s first graduates in Visual Arts.  Since graduating in 1976, he has contributed his time and his art work to the U de M, the National Film Board and Galerie Sans Nom.  He has been invited into over 80 solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada, the United States and France in both public and private galleries.  He is the recipient of many awards including the Canada Council for the Arts, The New Brunswick Arts Council and The Province of New Brunswick, including the Miller Brittain Prize for excellence in the visual arts in 1992.  He is an elected member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art.  On October 14, 2017, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery will organize a gala to celebrate their new expanded facilities.  Yvon Gallant has been invited to participate as a guest artists at that event.

Alvin Richard was born in Rexton NB in 1962 and grew up along the Northumberland Strait shores in Cap-Lumière. Completely self-taught, he started painting at the age of 25 and was initially influenced by the realist movement and artists that emerged from the Fine Arts faculty of Mount Allison University. He has been represented by professional galleries since 2003 and has exhibited in more that 90 solo and group exhibitions across Canada and the USA. He was elected a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists in 2004. His passion for art and travel has taken him to most major Art Museums across Canada, the United States and Western Europe. In 2015, he was a finalist for the Grand Prize Competition of Art Revolution Taipei in Taiwan. His artwork is found in public, private and corporate collections around the world.
