Going Public: How to approach, getting and producing Public Art Commissions

CARFAC Maritimes is inviting you to register for its 3rd Technical Webinar, “Going Public”  with Peter Powning on Sunday, April 25th, 2021 from 1:30 to  3:30 pm on ZOOM. Free for CARFAC members, $25 for non members.

In this webinar, artist Peter Powning will discuss the details of what is involved in finding and being awarded a public art commission. This will be an overview of what’s involved in securing and producing a successful art commission. We will cover requests for qualifications (RFQs) to calls for proposals (RFPs); budgeting to shipping; drawings to models and much more. Peter will also take a number of questions from participants.

Since 1970, Peter Powning has lived and worked as an artist in the hills of southern New Brunswick. While Powning’s award-winning work is shown internationally, it is imbued with qualities distilled from a life lived close to the silence, space and seasonal rhythms of his home and of the fields, forests and shorelines of Canada’s east coast. Known as an inveterate experimenter and risk-taker, he works in a wide range of media, often combining glass, cast bronze, stone, ceramics and steel. In addition, he produces large photographic prints of ephemeral works and has done seventeen public commissions. Powning has been awarded the Governor General’s Bronfman Award as well as an honorary doctorate from the University of New Brunswick.
