48 Hour Film Fest

The 48 Film Festival is a competition for local New Brunswick filmmakers to compete for prizes and awards and to show their abilities and passions when it comes to filmmaking. Each group that participates can have up to 10 members, and they have 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film (each under 7 minutes), which is an excellent way to show off your skills and push yourself, for all level filmmakers. Each group will pick up their inspiration package on the Friday, and then have from October 12-14 to complete their short film (full filmmaking guidelines below). Since the competition began, they’ve had 163 short films of almost every genre and type submitted, and several of those have been featured in North American film festivals and the local Silver Wave Film Festival.

Filmmakers from across the province are invited to come to Fredericton to participate in this festival. There are also opportunities for people who would like to participate in the festival but do not have a full group to also join other groups so they do not miss out on the experience. Participating in this festival is a perfect way to make connections within the entire New Brunswick filmmaking community!

– films must be under 7 minutes
– they must be delivered 48 hours after the team has picked up their inspiration package
– teams can be any size but can only have 10 people registered on the registration form (and eligible for prizes)
– teams are responsible for the safety and well being of their teammates and the locations they are shooting at
– we ask that participants consider themselves ambassadors of the competition and the filmmaking community and respect others
– if any fake gun use or public violence is planned for your shoot, we encourage you to contact the city police and be sure they are warned
– production insurance is the prerogative and responsibility of each team
– keep it simple and have fun!
