What’s in the Box? 📦

April 18 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

SJAC’s popular fundraiser is back LIVE for 2024 to answer the burning question, ‘What’s in the Box?’!

When is ‘What’s in the Box?’

Thursday, April 18, 7-9pm, join us for an entertaining evening of delicious food, fine drink, and an opportunity to support your community arts centre! (A $25 tax receipt can be issued for each $75 ticket.)

What actually *is* in the box?

By filling out a ballot (or more than one), you’ll have the unique chance to purchase for $100 a ‘mystery box’ containing an original artwork, which has been generously donated by one of over 50 local professional artists. If you’re not one of the lucky 50 whose ballot is drawn, maybe you’ll see a work you’d like to own in the one-night-only exhibition of works by our donor artists! (Please note that the ballot/chance to be drawn is not part of the event ticket price and is entirely optional. Attendees who choose to take part in the draw commit to buying one of the ‘mystery boxes’ of art for $100 if their ballot is drawn.)

Why support this fundraiser?

Funds from this event support our programs, including our important Artists’ Rights Fees program, to support the artists who share their works in the galleries of SJAC.

Elm City String Quartet

The ECSQ Play Mendelssohn, Piazzolla, and Pärt 🎻

March 14 @ 7:30 pm 9:30 pm

The Elm City String Quartet continues its season with a contrast of minimalism, romanticism and tango. Piazzolla’s Tango Ballet, an excellent example of nuevo tango, is a programmatic suite, and featuring six “film scenes”: introduction, the street, encounter / forgetfulness, cabaret, solitude, and the street again.

Elm City String Quartet

Arvo Pärt’s Summa is inspired by Medieval chant and Renaissance polyphony, and was originally composed as an a cappella vocal work for four singers. Mendelssohn’s Quartet Four is full of virtuosic passion, charming dance movements, and intimate romantic lyricism. While these pieces are from different ends of a musical spectrum, they all manage to get to the heart of what music is all about, in their own way.

  • Moncton – March 13, 7:30PM at Centre culturel Aberdeen – 140 rue Botsford St, Moncton
  • Saint John – March 14, 7:30PM at the Saint John Arts Centre – 20 Peel Plaza, Saint John
  • Fredericton – March 15, 7:30PM at Wilmot United Church – 473 King St., Fredericton

Tickets:

Adults: $20 | Seniors: $15 | Students: $10 | Sistema Students & Faculty: Free
