Nocturne is currently seeking artists to participate in our 2023 programming through the development of a temporary public artwork that will be exhibited during our signature night-time art experience taking place on Saturday, October 14.

For successful applicants, Nocturne pays equitable CARFAC 2023 Fees, material/production expenses, including accessibility costs, artist care, and travel.

Founded in 2008, Nocturne: Art at Night Festival (Nocturne) is a free, independent, contemporary art festival in Kjipuktuk (Halifax). Annually, Nocturne brings 60,000+ people to the streets of Halifax and Dartmouth to experience art and celebrate the visual arts scene in Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia). This year Nocturne will take place from October 12-15, 2023.

Call for Proposals for Stair Artworks

Location: Canada’s Capital Region

Deadline: Monday, April 24, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. EDT

Budget: $5,000

Canadian Heritage is seeking a dynamic, impactful image that conveys the theme “Journeys.”

This theme asks artists to reflect upon the idea of a journey as a means of understanding and growth. Artists may consider the physical and inner journeys that have shaped them, or the collective journeys undertaken by people and communities across Canada in the past, present, or even the future. Artists may also consider the visual implications of the “journey” from one point on the stairs to another.

All genres will be considered – figurative, abstract, collage, photography, trompe l’oeil, pattern, etc.

Two artworks will be chosen by a selection committee to be reproduced on exterior-quality graphic film and installed on stairs at two prominent locations in downtown Ottawa for a one-year period starting in spring 2023. All other eligible submissions will be retained for consideration until August 31, 2023, should additional steps locations become available.

The two winning artists will receive a fee of $5,000 for the exhibition of their artwork.

The Ice House Gallery is looking for submissions from sculptors or 3 dimensional artists whose work speaks to the theme of Terrain.

Work will be selected by gallery curator Brandt Eisner. Work chosen will be based on interpretation of the theme and what brings diversity to the show. (Work that hangs on the wall has already been selected).

The Beaverbrook Art Gallery is calling for submissions for the Studio Watch 2023: Emerging Artist Exhibition.

This dynamic series provides New Brunswick artists in the early stages of their career with the opportunity for a solo exhibition, the publication of an exhibition brochure, and the purchase of a work of art for the permanent collection of the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.

Studio Watch 2023: Emerging Artist Exhibition will be held at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery from October 21, 2023 to June 2024.

To be eligible, the artist must:

• Reside and produce art in New Brunswick. Consideration will also be given to New Brunswick residents who are attending higher education programs or conducting temporary projects outside of the province.
• Have at least three years experience in making art.
• Not yet have had a solo exhibition in a major public gallery or museum.
• Have a body of work ready for exhibition in October 2023.

Each submission package must contain the following:

• Curriculum vitae.
• Artist statement of 450 words.
• Five digital image samples of artwork.

Galerie Sans Nom is seeking submissions for Queer Tides, a video series to be installed in Aberdeen Cultural Centre November 2023, with the possibility of a screening in collaboration with environmental advocacy focused community partners.

Inspired by the mudflats of the Petitcodiac river and greater Bay of Fundy region, Queer Tides aims to frame coastal and intertidal zones as a queer space, exploring intersecting identities, the relationship between tourism and self-representation, and climate emergency through video. By bridging hollow binaries: ocean and land, grief and awe, documentary and folktale, the program will speak to the role of both uncertainty and enchantment in an environmental context.

This call is open to proposed, in-progress, and completed works by artists of all identities and stages of their careers. Galerie Sans Nom is dedicated to both compensating artists (using IMAA fee schedule as a guide when presenting media artworks) and accessible process. Third Watch is a festival of digital video works, and a pilot project as a part of THIRD SHIFT programming. It will take place in Saint John, NB on August 19, 2023. Third Watch aims to celebrate audio-visual content that is exploratory, challenging, and critical in nature. We encourage work that may not be commercially viable, or suitable for an installation as a part of THIRD SHIFT. Submissions must be under 15 minutes in length. Content may be narrative, documentary, experimental, or anything in between. If you can project it, we can select it!

February 2023 – The fifth annual City of Fredericton Summer Artist-in-Residence program will take place this year in two locations – the Fredericton Botanic Garden at Odell Park, and Killarney Lake Park.  The City is inviting artists to submit proposals for a residency at either location during July or August. Residency periods are for two weeks with a new option this summer for a one-month residency, each with a stipend of $500 per week.  Accommodations are not provided.

The program provides a unique opportunity for artists to move their studio outdoors into the natural surroundings of Killarney Lake’s wooded recreational park on the northside, or in the community-run Botanic Garden adjacent to Odell Park on the southside. Both locations are open and free to the public.

Artists are required to engage with park and garden users daily on site, and with the broader community through online activities. Artists will be active on social media with brief daily updates on their residency as well as occasional, in-depth activities such as a demo, artist talk, or workshop. Selected artists are free to move throughout the park or garden as part of their creative process and will be provided with portable lawn signs which will indicate that they are the ‘Artist in Residence’.

This residency is open to all artists working in any medium, however preference will be given to work that is conducive to community engagement. The artist is expected to be in residence Monday to Friday, for 6-8 hours daily.

Third Shift 2023 Call for Proposals

THIRD SHIFT is an annual festival of public contemporary artworks that takes place in Saint John, New Brunswick. THIRD SHIFT 2023 will take place from August 18 – 20, 2023.

Established in 2015, THIRD SHIFT holds space for new experiences and communal exchange through the exhibition of temporary public art installations, performances, and screenings. Contact East is an annual performing arts booking conference hosted by the Atlantic Presenters Association. The event brings performing arts presenters, managers, and agents together to see artist performances showcasing a diverse range of artistic genres, including but not limited to music, cabaret, dance, disability arts, circus arts, comedy, youth-oriented programming, and cultural performances.

This year, Contact East will take place in Woody Point, Newfoundland from Thursday, September 20 to Sunday, September 24 offering artist showcases and pitch sessions, professional development sessions, and numerous opportunities for presenters, artists, agents and managers to network and discuss booking opportunities.

Artists should be prepared to present a performance, or excerpt of a full length piece of work, approximately 15 minutes in length. APA understands that some performances need more time to be fully experienced and will do their best to ensure that all work is properly represented.

Artists should be prepared to showcase the performance that was stated in the application. Any changes must be pre-approved as the selection committee selects final applications based on what was submitted.

The Klondike Institute for Arts and Culture has an open general call for exhibitions.

2024/25 Submissions deadline: February 15, 2023.

AX is seeking applications for the AX National Emerging Artists Ceramics Exhibition 2023.

Please submit your application by April 21, 2023. This exhibition is for emerging artists working in all clay/ceramics.

Emerging ceramists around the country are invited to make a submission to a jury of respected professional ceramists who will select 20 artists to take part in the exhibition. The exhibition and selection process will offer up-and-coming artists an opportunity to have their work recognized and promoted in a juried exhibition.

In selecting the 20 artists, the jurors will choose work that has significant impact and depth of meaning, pushes boundaries, and creates a conversation.

We will notify successful artists by May 1, 2023, and artists must deliver work to AX no later than June 1, 2023. Artists are responsible for the shipping arrangements (both ways), with AX reimbursing the costs up to $600.

AX will pay artist fees to the 20 selected artists. Fees will be based on national Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) standards.

The jury will also select submissions to receive an additional cash prize.

All ceramic artists, both US and international, who have been actively pursuing a career in ceramics for 10 years or less are invited to apply to the Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist competition.

Selected artists will have their work published in the May 2023 issue of the magazine.

To be considered for the Emerging Artist competition, please submit the following materials via Submittable by February 10, 2023:

1. Up to five high-resolution (300 ppi) digital images that are at least 2500 pixels in the largest dimension (or at least 5×7 inches in print size at 300 dpi)
2. Complete caption information for each image including materials, processes used, firing temperature, dimensions, and date completed
3. Contact information (including email and current mailing address)
4. Current artist statement and résumé saved as a PDF, Word, or .txt document.
